Hi all, I read this and thought I'd post it. Some very sad news here. Never nice to read and had to think twice about posting it.

Brits die in Swiss motorbike crash

    1/6/2011

Two British motorcyclists were killed and another is critically ill in hospital after what police in Switzerland said was a crash with a biker from Germany.

In total, eight British bikers had been travelling along the motorway near Splügen in the canton of Graubünden when they collided with the German.

Local police confirmed two British bikers aged 50 and 56 had died at the scene and that a third Brit together with the German biker had been airlifted to hospital in a critical condition. They added that the accident had caused extensive tailbacks as the road was closed for several hours while police investigated the accident - and then cleared up the debris that had been scattered over a wide stretch of the road.

A police spokesman said: "The two in hospital are seriously injured. The injured Briton is 39 years old, the German is a 62-year-old man. There were nine people involved in total but we have no idea as yet what caused the accident. We are still reconstructing it by speaking to witnesses. It will take a while."

I hope the two that did survive pull through.

Haven't seen bikes that mangled in a very long time.

Never good news. Would be interested in finding out what happened. Looks like a huge amount of damage and impact. Maybe the pack were riding close and took others down?

    still sad news

the story is that 8 biker friends from Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England were on a trip around Europe to celebrate two of the british friends birthdays. When they came to a dual carridge way near Splügen in canton Graubünden zurich that is where they had the crash. 5 of the british who was in front pulled over down the road and waited for the other 3 to catch up, 3 or 4 of the british bikers me qnd my dad knows. Now one of the people we know phoned and said they pulled over whilst waiting for the 3 to catch up, now iv been told two things -1. they pulled over and someone passing said if your with them bikers id get back down there because theyve had a crash. -2. They pulled over and one of the bikers saw a ball of fire in his mirror. I dont know which is true, now after they heard or saw there was a crash they raced back and saw a devistating sight. 2 of the british was killed instantly, both of which i know, and the other who had the green bike is my best mates father, he got airlifted to hospital aswell as the german biker. The british surviver who had the green bike is coming around and doing well, he suffers from a fractured foot, a knacked up pelvis, his arm is in a brace and pinned and cracked a bone under his eye at side of his nose. He spent 6 hours in theatre for his pelvis.

Terrible sight, wishing the surviver a full and speady recovery and our thought are with the families.
If there is any more news as to how this happened we need to know, we need to learn new ways of staying safe every day and what went wrong here is important to that regard.

    Hi,

I decided to remove the pictures from the first post.

Thoughts to the friends and families of those involved.

(Remal they are still in your cache so that's why you can see them).

    Rob.
