Need to change brake pads on SP blade before June . Brembo 17 RCS and Hel lines fitted. I'm looking at SBS street excel or EBC HI. Bike is fast road only. Any recommendations from the forum? Thanks in advance.
Hi mate. I've recently put EBC HH pads into mine. Got HEL lines fitted, but standard master cylinder and standard tokico calipers. Only done a few miles on the road since, but happy so far. Definitely got better bite than the standard pads, although I should say the standard pads were almost completely done. Got a couple of hours on track next week, so if you haven't taken the plunge by then I can let you know how they feel after that. I know you say your bike is for fast road only, but my track pace is probably similar to most folks' fast-road pace
Can you let us know what they are like for dust after your track day please. I'm on the original pads I think and they are dusty as fuck! I clean it every time out and its filthy after 100 miles fast road.
Last few bikes I've used SBS Street Excel. I'm due some soon and that's what I'll be ordering. Riding is fast road, no track time for me.
Personally I won't use EBC, seen too many shagged discs, and they are shit in the wet. Always used SBS DC on track bike and OEM on the road bikes. So for a road bike that does the odd track day I'd stick with OEM Just my opinion and experiences.
What are sbs like for dust? The oem are plenty enough stopping power just don't like the dust they kick out
SBS RS (Race Sinter) great pads for track and road, or DC for track only, as they take a bit of warming up, never noticed anymore dust than normal?
I agree Simon Also would not use SBS DC on the road as they don't work in the wet. I used to change the pads if I put my wet wheels in. They are very good in the dry once warmed up though.
Hey guys. Been out over the last few days and bit if fast road and some very sedate stuff due to charity Ride outs. thing is that I was out for the fast road and even though the bike only has 1500 miles on the clock the brakes seems to be very spongy, it seems the hotter they get the more the leaver moves. Is this normal ? Would it be worth changing to some Fast road pads ? Ta
No its not normal how old is the brake fluid ? should be changed every couple of years ideally OEM pads are fine for fast road use its what they are designed for
Bike is only 3 months old. I am not used to the brakes on the bike and no base line to go off apart from when the tyres we put on the leaver felt a lot better for a few miles then it went back to moving more than I would expect it to. Sounds like the sedimentary riding is glazing the pads and I need to give it a spanking when I go out now and again. its Non ABS but I was expecting a firm leaver rather than the one I have, to top it all I have the Short Leaves as well
I have not ridden the 2016 model, the last blade I had was a 2009 and that had a lovely hard lever I also had short levers and I used the bike on track, it had standard OEM pads, I rode it pretty hard on track and never suffered a spongy lever. The new blade I tested a few weeks ago had 1400 miles on it, I gave it a good hard ride and the brakes were great, much better than the GSXR and ZX10r that had Brembo calipers, their levers felt spongy in comparison. If its only 3 months old take it back to the dealer and get it checked.
The lever feel on my 2015 is nice and firm. Could be moisture in the fluid, it's an easy and cheap enough job to change it to see if there's an improvement.
