anyone else seen this recall stuff for the usa wonder if we will get it quote from the .net rr forum "For all the doubters if you have the problem or not, this is something you would definitely know if you had the problem. First and foremost, at idle your bike would sound like a diesel tractor, when putting a load on the motor by holding the brake and letting the clutch out, it goes away. When decelerating in first or second gear, you have a very noticable "supercharger" or gear whine when off the gas... This is all caused by the deformity of the primary gear on the end of the crankshaft which attaches to the clutch basket. The crankshaft revision, hardens the crankshaft material to not deform under high stress." pretty much described my fireblade in a nutshell right there anyone else had this issue in the uk? Tom
Mine has had that done, one of the reasons I bought the bike, the previous owner had just got it back from having this recall done, so the engine had a new 3 year warrenty on it
mines the RRA version and it was deffo exhibiting those symptoms first thing I commented on when I got on the bike actually mentioned it to the idiot dealer that serviced it before the Ilse of man and they said it was noise of the screen gave up arguing in the end wish I had spotted this at the time be getting it into my new friendly dealer soon as I've got the fairings back on and a pipe on it
This covers the us though, has a memo been sent out to the uk dealers etc? Also, can we get this done unto 5 years from first registration?? I'll be keeping an eye on mine......
I'll be getting a definitive answer tomorrow about uk I do remember though suzuki usa got a rectifier recall for the k8/k9 about a year before us in the uk. So maybe its the same for the honda's Ill post up as soon as I know though but my blade is definatley exhibiting those faults sounds like its got a supercharger on it in first and 2nd gear anyone else get that noise? first Honda Thanks, Tom
Mine isn't it's had the clutch mod but I'm not sure if this is the clutch mod or different, The a that connects to the cable is defo not centre punched though, so maybe another trip to the dealers!
Clutch mod is different... My 08 had this noise from new.. at 23000k it deposited all the hard facing from the primary into the gearbox/engine and made a mess. Honda covered some under goodwill. but not the complete engine rebuild that was required.....
This is not the clutch recall. It's actually not a recall at all, just a warranty extension and it applies to the US only AFAIK.
yup I know its for usa but I remember when suzuki rolled out the recall for the rectifiers on the gsx-r, the us got it first and about a year later uk got it knew before the dealers did haha. Will have a propper answer in a bit of my local honda dealer and will be getting it checked asap as mine is definatley exhibiting the fault the usa bikes are exactly.
Well i have just checked my 09 model and indeed it has the updated parts on it, with the new cable holder and the lever has been centre punched, so i guess mine was done at my Honda dealer before i bought the bike?
interesting I'm a bit to ill to go outside at the moment but Ill have a looksee see if mine is punched to will have an answer if we are gonna get a recall on saturday
PeterT - i reckon yours will have the UK clutch upgrade, but it's unlikely that it has the new crankshaft.
Yes i kinda guessed that, i have checked over the entire engine and every fastener looks brand new with no tell tale signs that someone has had the engine out of the frame.
This is what I have got for the UK one (only scanned in 1st two pages and last page as the rest are same as the one already posted)
awseome mate Ill be trying that in the week I think nearly got the bike in 90% back together condition
Mine has these symptoms exactly!! Clutch side rattle, supercharger whine in 1st and 2nd. I will try the recommended test procedure. I hope Honda UK are extending their warrantly as well??
