Can anyone recommend a third party fairing kit supplier, Chinese imports on eBay or otherwise, for my RR5? I did search on here and found one thread about this but I can't find the supplier mentioned.
My advice - get a dremel, take your time, add heat shield on the inside I found the fairing tabs / clips more fragile - I fitted some extra nuts / bolts to keep key parts together (lower fairing where it joined the bellypan) but they are a good way to refresh a bike The plastic is a different make up / composition to original - I'd not bank on them lasting as well as originals but they are a fraction of the cost Above from experience BTW - not 'something I read somewhere'
Performance bikes magazine did a review of the auctmart fairings a few years ago...and said although the colour was slightly different from standard they were very good and would buy again
+1. That is spot on with my experience of them too. They do a good enough job for their cost, if you want oem quality then you have to pay oem prices.
They don't have the flexibility and general plasticity of the OEM fairings. The tail piece for an RR6/7 is a right pain to fit onto the rear subframe at the best of times. To fit the chinese fairings I ended up having to get everything nice and warm with heaters and hair dryers. And like Allblade, I ended up having to use nuts & bolts to join the panels around the bottom of the belly pan (I used number plate nuts/bolts, if that helps), as the fit just wasn't accurate enough to hold everything with the little OEM plastic clips. I second what Allblade said about heat shield... buy good stuff, and use plenty of it, anywhere the exhaust gets near a panel. And, I still haven't had the balls to remove any of it... I'm close to needing to top up my coolant reservoir, but such is the weakness of the locating tabs, and general lack of plasticity, that I just fear something will break catastrophically. All that said, general wisdom was to budget for replacing them after 3 years... they've been on 2 years, they still look great and nothing's broken yet.
I have a set on my SP1 Bought them off a guy for £150, he didnt like the slight miss-colour match As said, they are not oe quality but for the price you dont have to worry about them My original fairing are bubble wrapped in the loft Dont look three bad for the money Rob
