Anyone else have any experience with rear sets made by Area22 ?
Hold themselves out to be a performance part supplier on eBay... I needed some rear sets for my 2012 track blade and thought I would give them a go... looked ok in the pics and the blurb all sounded good... item number 281410441051

Not the most expensive ones you can buy but at just under £200 they weren't cheap either...
I also ordered some spare pegs and toe pegs as they are normally first to go in a slide.. all in all I probably paid nearly £300.

Anyway, they were sold as fitting my make/model/year so I wasn't expecting any issues....

They arrived and I started fitting them the following day. got to the last bit, fitting the rear brake actuator and found that the pin was way to short. Reported the issue to the supplier misano-moto-import on eBay item number 281410441051 and they asked the size of original pin (7mmx20mm).. anyway a week later new parts arrived, closest was 8mmx20mm which would not fit through the whole on the actuator. after a few more emails they suggested I drill out the original actuator to accommodate the new pin... thus making the actuator no use on original parts as the whole would allow play.. Anyway did the mod, and it all worked ok....

went to the track that weekend and nearly had a massive high side !!!!!!!!
The new rear set gear lever was a different design to the original, didn't really spot it when fitting.
The original Honda gear lever comes out from the pivot point and sweeps up in a curve allowing plenty of ground clearance, then new one comes straight out from the pivot point and sticks out a good 20-25mm further than the original.
So in effect these "performance parts" that are designed to increase ground clearance for high speed cornering had actually reduced it, to the point it lifted the rear wheel off the ground as it had become a central pivot point almost causing me to have a massive high side... came straight in the pits to see what was scraping and it had ground the gear lever down to the centre bolt... changed back to the original Honda gear lever and it never touched again....

So now I have part of the rear sets fitted, original gear shift and a rear brake master cylinder that can no longer be used with original brake lever. I have asked for a partial refund via PayPal so we will now wait and see what the response is.

So be warned, just because it says "performance"... it may not be.. Probably looks good on a street bike, but if you are getting ya knee down you may well end up doing a few flips before ending up on ya back.

    Yep.. easily missed...
After sending lots of pics they still cant see the issue, and apparently their tech support is an ex motogp2 rider... yet he still cant understand the issue???... really???... Its bloody obvious, just look at the pic .. anything sticking out further will touch sooner, especially when its down low like the gear lever pivot point.

My understanding is that the Area 22 stuff is the same as the Arashi ebay chinese stuff. They sell for around £100 a set. For the money you paid I would have bought some diamond rearsets at £175.00. I have them on mine with no issues.

You can also get GB moto and ses rear sets for less than £200.00.

yep your probably right... and with hindsight.... I would not buy them again.
They look a little flimsy bit I was taken in by the blurb..... still if I get a partial refund of £100 which is what ive requested ill be happy
but certainly would not buy again.

I got GB moto rearsets on my bike, and i have no problems on the track. Even at the rearsets lowest setting, the pegs never scrape.

You should be fine getting a refund by eBay. Sound utter rubbish. Also to add bright anodised crap on bike parts screams cheap to me. Try diamond or Ses
No experience with gb moto so far

Thanks... And no thanks for this thread El Bruto!!!.. I have a pair fitted to mine. I had them fitted to my bike along with all the other stuff (new engine, full Akro, PC5 etc etc) and haven't ridden it yet. I had the lot done at RJS so I'll phone ask if they had similar issues with the actuator. I've got the original rearsets so I'll check them against - clearance wise. Thanks for the heads up dude, hope you're sorted now!
