    Hi,

My recently purchased rr8 has 26k miles and I can tell that the suspension needs some kind of attention...

I'm trying to decide between getting the standard shock serviced or upgrading to the 2013+ model shock - they're both around the same price. So, is the later model shock that much better or will a freshly serviced 08 shock be just as good?

    Cheers

If you can i'd get BFRC shock from later models. Usually a few end up for sale on the forum for reasonable money.

Cheers, that was the impression I was getting.

The BFRC fits straight in as well doesn't it, so it should be a simple swap...

I upgraded my RR8 with K-Tech Internals and can honestly say the difference is absolutly brill. Both front and rear. Took my bike to bob grant racing up here in Scotland. He did the front and sent the rear off to K-Tech....

I was lucky with my 08 blade and got a rear shock taken off when new off a 13 bike, for £80 took me 45 mins to fit and sold my own for £60

Went to Alpha suspension and had a fork oil change and susp set up for £200

Put a pair of Metzelers M7RR on and the bike rode better than my 2016 and was awesome for £220 +tyres.

Cheers guys, I think I'll keep my eyes open for a nice shock then. Hopefully I'll be able to sell the OE one and get some cash to have the fork oil changed too!

Didn't get a notification about the reply...

Cheers for that link, it's on my watch list already! Just want to find out how many miles it's done before buying it. Though, one's just come up for sale on here too...

I got myself a nice shock from a 2012 bike from another user on here, which was pretty handy. Now I just need to get it on the bike.

Is there anyone local to braintree in essex who would be happy to lend an abba stand please so I can do this myself - It's a good chance to clean some crap off bits I wouldn't otherwise be able to reach, and I wouldn't want to pay someone labour to do cleaning for me!

Alternatively, would these be sufficient to hold the bike up? - http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/garage-workshop/axle-stands/halfords-2-tonne-axle-stands

    Cheers

I dropped the bike straight off the paddock stand onto axle stands under the footpegs

cool, do those axle stands look like they'll do the job? I won't blame you if the bike falls on me...

Just put something under rear wheel to ensure it doesnt pivot but from memory it was pretty secure whilst i swapped the shock

Get the stands close in on the pegs

Anybody doing this swap may like to see the info I've just relayed to Henrick in DE about 2013 shock and spring options.
Basically any Ohlins 1091 1092 series spring will fit with a small spacer, 2mm at the body end to keep the spring from rubbing on the body.
Or any K Tech with the following 57-160-X. X being the rate you require.
Hyperpro variable rate for the 08-11 shock doesn't fit. I'm checking on a Ducati Hyperpro spring at the moment which could be an option.
The Ohlins 1092 is 170 long and would have to start on a lower preload ring setting if you can't get a 1091 which is 160mm long. There's at least 10mm of preload adjustment.

I mean't to add. Have a good go at servicing the linkage while you're there. Mine had 2 bearings so dry and seized I had to replace them. At only 11k miles. Bummer.
