Hi all. My first post (as normal Im guessing, a problem...!) Firstly I must add I have the mechanical knowledge of a dead tree frog. I have a very slight metallic almost disc on disc noise/vibration which is very slowly getting worse. It is very mild probably not audible to anyone else but Im a princess with my bike. It's on when in gear. It's around the 4-4.5k rev mark. So below and above that it fades out. Mechanics whom I trust suggested a tight spot on my (very old) chain. Got that done, made no difference. Could It be my cam chain. Can these be adjusted or is it a straight swap for new? Many thanks in advance for kind advice. Chris
The cam chain is an auto one which adjusts itself to maintain the correct tension. Most cam chain noise is evident on cold start up and will disappear as the engine warms. Take a screwdriver, place the handle end to your ear then put the other end on cam chain tensioner and have a listen.
Yes could well be the cam chain tensioner. It’s a known problem area on the Blade. I had to change mine at 10k miles on the road bike and 5k miles on the track bike. I’ve known of some gon at Just over 2k miles. You can either fit a new tensioner or have a manual tensioner fitted
