hi This is not the start to blade ownership that I wanted but here I am. I have a 2017 blade, it was a massive purchase and I’ve been Uber protective over it. As I was with my zx6r for the 8 years I owned her from new. I was fitting my 1 Jac stand and I’ve damaged the inside of my frame which leaves me gutted. Long story short I used the wrong size Honda tool to get to the engine mounting bolt. Does anyone know the best way to fix this or who to take it to. I can’t tell you just how gutted and stupid I feel right now. I’m in the Manchester area. Any help or advice would be great
Might I suggest a set of black plastic frame bungs and a small amount of therapy to help you get over it? Sorry mate, that is a bummer. I can imagine how you feel. Good luck. How has the bike been otherwise?
I feel like I need therapy lol. Im sure I have OCD or something. Do you know of any frame plugs which will do it? The r and g ones seem to be for the swing arm, the lower frame hole, but I maybe mistaken. Otherwise the bike is a dream. Thanks for the reply
I wouldn't buy bike specific frame bungs because they're a rip off. Just measure the internal diameter with a vernier and get them off ebay. They're cheap enough to order the size above and below what you have measured aswell just incase. https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Round-Plas...hash=item1a3a5576c5:m:mHI841O8wpXhThH-UBuy3tg
Hi mate, it doesn't look to bad and is just cosmetic damage right? I would agree with charlieR85 and get some frame plugs (not bungs) and that would cover up the the offensive eye soar. I feel your pain though, my Spyke boots have a titanium ankle guards on them and it has scrubbed the black paint off the frame. Gutted about that and I've since found some frame rub protectors on eBay that I keep meaning to buy, looks like you have some from your pics? Did you buy the bike from Hunts? Maybe take it back there see what they'e got to fix it. If you're in Manchester area give us a shout and we'll go for a post New year ride and discuss how not to damage our bikes!! All the best Whitty1982
Paul, yeah it’s just cosmetic, I got it from hunts a few months ago. I think the frame plug will be the best way to go for now Still debating sanding smooth and then maybe a black acid etched primer after masking it all off. And yeah that ride sounds good!!
I wouldn't if I was you Whitty. You're entering into muddy waters there trying to do a cover up/repair job yourself. I would either take it to an expert for opinion and repair or put the plug in and do your best to forget about it. I would be inclined not to take it back to Hunts aswell, you never know if they'd be awkward about it if you ever wanted to trade it in with them.
Having read that, maybe I'm being a little over cautious? If you feel confident to have a go then that's up to you.
Charlie, I appreciate the opinion I have slept on it. Took out the bolt this morning and had a good look. It’s just shitty scratching I’m going to mask it all off and spray it with acid etch primer inside the hole. Just to calm down the look of scraped metal. It doesn’t affect how the bolt works and I’ve took out all the bits/filings tha were present.
Masked off and sanded down....looks loads better Will get some frame paint made up tommorrow and air brush it on!!
Try RS Bike Paint they are very helpful. I got paint from them for my HRC which was an excellent match.
TBH your frame has lost it's intregrity. I'll swap you for my 2009 and chuck in a perfectly fitted Warrior Stand mount and Lifter. Joking aside good job on the cover up!
