Hi Chaps Anyone sold their ABS Blade that they have taken their ABS off, if so did you have problems selling it? I'm thinking of selling my 09 ABS Blade that I ditch the ABS on and don't know weather too sell as it is or reinstate the ABS. Would appreciate your thoughts Cheers
Sold mine to a member on here. So long as you advertise it as such I don’t see any issues. In fact I would hazard a guess most would prefer it ditched anyway with the issues they have.
I agree with Colin. I wouldn't have another Combined ABS Blade again (been there done that...) I notice on some dealer ads they specify Non ABS (as a selling point!) It would be worth pointing out to the buyer that the ABS has been removed though - as I think the model name on the V5 is different for ABS version?
is there not a prob with mot time. I had a van that I disconnected abs and it failed because it was there so it had to be working, if that makes sense,
Makes complete sense, perhaps similar to the pillion peg issue, where if a bike has a pillion seat, it must have pegs, whether or not you carry pillions. With the ABS issue though, the certifier would have to know that the model WAS originally fitted with ABS. Because ABS is an option on many models, it might just sneak through. However, leaving dead give-aways like sensor rings on the wheels, and the larger black plastic undercarriage above the rear wheel wouldn't help your chances!
If you fully remove all the abs , then it's just tested as a non abs bike & it's not a problem. If you just disconnect it then it will fail, unless you re-connect before the mot.
How about insurance wise? If it's registered as an ABS model and you remove it are you still covered or how do you declare it? Can't imagine the insurance company would be particularly happy with the removal, over safety concerns or whatever the reason.
Very valid point, DF, as always. (Thinking outside the box) And we ALL know that if an insurance company can find an exit clause, they'll use it to the max!
Some insurance companies are fine as long as you declare it but some are arses. As long as you've removed the system & the bike with now standard braking system is mot'd then the decent companies shouldn't have an issue with it. It's an extra at the end of the day & all you've done is remove it & ended up with a standard blade. I was thinking of getting mine removed at one point so looked into all the possible snags. Couldn't get a garage to do it though
can you name any insurance companys that would be happy with this a friend of mine looked into removing his abs he rang every company he could think of not one would touch him with a barge pole.
Bare with me...I found a couple mentioned on a bmw forum, but it was a while back. I'll try & find them again. @Dave dunlop removed his & a few others have, so obviously they got insured ok somewhere
Mine has gone through the last 2 MOTs disconnected and passed w/o a problem. The brakes are tested for efficiency, abs disconnected they will just act like conventional brakes unless your discs, pads are hanging or you have holes in your lines you will pass!. The light obviously will be on during the test, this is not a failure. I don't even think the wheels even rotate fast enough during the brake test to turn off the light.
@rebel It wasn't this quite old thread I originally found the discussion in, but it's a similar one involving problems with abs on a particular BMW. Quite a lot of folks were removing the abs on it...Nash & Revitt both mentioned. Maybe it's easier to already have the ins & notify a change rather than try & get new insurance from the off?!?
ta thanks ill tell him to give carol nash a ring i expect most people would take of the abs and not tell the insurance only hes one of those that likes to do everything legal and by the book.
