We might have to replace our traditional boiler. I am thinking combi is the way to go. Questions 1) are they better and cheaper to run? 2) which are the best makes? Thanks
Depends what kind of demand you have on the HW in the house. Smaller houses with 1 bathroom are especially suited to a combi. Multi bathroom with a few kids better suited to system boiler. Last combi I had in a previous house was glowworm, very good for the price.
There is just me and my wife. 3 bed detached, but not massive. Small en squite bathroom plus one other bathroom which is never used. Combi, should do the job, do you think?
Yea sounds perfect then. Few years ago now but I paid £1400 for new combi and removing HW tank and CH header tank.
Best boilers at the moment are Worcester Bosch, just had a 30si Combi fitted for a 3 bed semi. Runs up to 10 rads and will be more than adequate for your needs. Cost me £1258 to buy, don't know how much to fit, I haven't had the bill yet! .
I have a Valiant combi turbomax plus for 17 years now for my 3 bed home, Do the maintenance myself, I have replaced 3 diverter valves as they lasted over 5 years each, Very easy job. For me, Valient all the way.
I have 'Ideal Logic Combi' in a 2-bedroom. Just me and the bikes. Keeps us all warm. Good point from @CharlieR85 about fitting thermostat.
Make sure you get a boiler that will accept wireless remote thermostat and if you can, get your boiler zoned so it can run upstairs and downstairs heating separately. Hive and Nest are most popular wireless smart thermostats but others do exist. If you have Alexa it can be used to control and monitor your heating system remotely.
i had same dilema and after much reseach went for a high kw viessmann. It has been very good and the advantage is you can get rid of all water cylinders, storage tanks etc. before you choose it is worth testing your cold water mains flow so you can match that to the kw of the combi.
