Hi Can ask any of you dudes who have done trackdays with MSV/No limits what the groups are like in general at Donington? Most of my track days have been with focussed events with the chrono lap timing so the groups sort them selves out. I do around a 1:50 at Donington on my ZX-7R so i'm wondering if this is Inters or fast group? Been in the fast group on the last few but obviously it depends who's actually there and if its a noisy or quiet day. I think I prefer being one of the slower ones in the fast group, as the really fast ones get past you no problem and everyone is consistent, but don't want to be too slow. Hopefully i'll be a bit quicker on the blade (might not be intitally while I get used to the extra power, easier to get in trouble with 170hp than 100hp ). Looking forward to less weight and good brakes too, the 7R is a bit of a tank! Cheers Mike
I'm afraid you've half answered you're own question. It all depends who's there. If you catch it in the week leading up to a club meeting then you'll have the race boys out on track and it'll be fast in both Inters and Fast group, as when the fast group fills up it just overspills into Inters. Assuming your 1:50 is including 'the loop' (which I'm sure it is) then I would say you are positioned top of inters > lower fast group. If you're cool with faster boys getting past you as they need i.e. you don't get easily scared by the odd close bike, then I'd just go with fast personally. Getting stuck in inters on a day with a load of slower paced riders can really spoil it. For me anyway.
As above. 1:50 may be the slower end of fast group, but you're likely to be slowed down a lot in Inters. FWIW I'm also 1:50, but on a Blade. I'll go in either group depending on who I'm with.
Cool, think i'll just have to do a few on the Blade and see how it goes. Be good if they all adopted something similar to the Chrono system probably one of the only good things about focussed events. Going to try and get out with one of the instructors on the next one too to get better body positioning. I'm rubbish at hanging off (the 7R is a bit cramped for me, blade is a lot roomier). really need to be hanging off more now to go faster safer .
I agree with Charlie and Muffking, if you go in inters it just might slow you down and ruin your day, better to go in fast group and slow 30 faster riders down and ruin their day as apposed to yours...
TBH i was there last Tuesday in fast group, many riders were slower than 1:50 but all seemed to keep good lines so you'll be good. Most important thing is to enjoy the day. Im back there on Tuesday so might see you
I don’t think I’ll get chance to get time off work until May. Random question Matt - are you planning on picking up some Alpinestars boots on your way?
, someone called Matt is collecting some boots from me on the way to a trackday at Donington on Tuesday when you said you were back their on Tuesday thought it might be you.
As said, a lot depends on the day As a guide, my best time is 1.47 on my 06 blade (1.49 on my old zxr750) I go in advanced and are generally not the quickest but you tend to get more consistent laps and the real quick guys just fook off anyway Rob
I dont do laptimes, i just go out and pass the person in front, as he is my target/focus, ill look at that persons line into the corner, and how quick he gets out. This gives me my improvement factor. My advice is, if you want to improve and fell the factor that was great, don't question your ability. Stay in the advanced group, look at how other riders have passed you, and say how did he manage to do that. Ive been to Donnington 3 times in the advanced group, last time i went i passed 20 bikes in 1 session and no one passed me, because i learnt from previous experiences. Be positive, and believe in your ability. You'll learn more in the advanced group.
