Weird question - has anyone retro fitted (or had one fitted) to a standard 2017 blade? Got my eye on a MY17 plate blade which doesn't have a QS as standard. I test rode an SP and loved the QS. Local dealer says you can get the QS fitted to a standard blade afterwards. Not sure if that is true or not. Or you need to get it fitted when ordering new standard one. Wondered if anyone had done it and experience?
Interesting proposition. If you have a good relationship with your Honda dealer, perhaps have a word with one of the parts guys and see if the QS is listed as an aftermarket kit. Many on here have fitted non-OEM QS, but I have not read of the genuine article being fitted. I presume this is for a near new second hand model? You might find a dealer with a new 2017 with QS at a clearance price. They are still around - I saw a matte black in Bromsgrove (Worcs) this week, but don't know if it had a QS. Alternatively, just buy an SP - you won't regret it!!
I was enquired about one for my 2017 when I arranged the purchase but I didn't think it was worth £700. The sales guy sort of persuaded me not to bother. Maybe he was old school. Definitely possible though.
£700? Wow. I hop[e that's a 'fitted' price. Having experienced the QS on my 2018, I must say they are very effective in some situations - rapid overtakes for one.
I'm considering sticking one on at first service. It's classed as a standard factory part and can be bought at anytime as an accessory. I was quoted £600 and free fitting when I bought the bike.
Thanks for the info so far guys - really useful. Yes i'm looking at a 2nd hand 2017 model (seen a few for around the 10,500 to 11000 price zone). Seems a rare item on a std model - not many used models fitted with QS (if any). £600 to £700 quid does seem expensive. At that price might be worth waiting for more used SP models coming to market.
the hm quickshifters are great piece of kit , but the sp is up and down and you can also go from 1st to 2nd and would also have the down shift as well .
In 330 miles, I haven't even used my QS downshift yet. No real reason, perhaps just an unwarranted fear of crunching the gearbox. I put it down to pensioner syndrome.
QS downshift is easier to use around town as it is intended to be used at 0% throttle, where as the up-shift QS is intended to be used at full throttle, and the more throttle you use the slicker it gets. Incidentally, is your SP2 a 2018 model according to Honda or are you considering it a 2018 because of year of registration?
Mine is an SP2 2018 build: JH2SC77CXJK100130, 'J' signifying the year as you know. UK received a shipment (said to be another 33) in mid-March. Mine was registered and delivered on 23 March. There are a few subtle differences with the 2018. Perhaps the most obvious (as once pointed out on your .net forum) is the red 'Honda' decal on the belly pan as opposed to blue. That same forum has also shown a German version with white 'reversed' white paint beneath the screen, whereas mine is blue. Most significantly, it does not have the gold '25th Anniversary' decal on top of the tank. That omission of course, makes the 2018 faster! - although much slower than your modded SP2 track bike. And, of course, WE get the gold/magnesium engine covers whereas you disappointed American purchasers get black. In UK's Motorcycle News (weekly magazine) a '12 miles' 2017 SP2 has been advertised over the past few weeks for £24,000. The new price, on-the-road, is £22,549. They are not that rare to that extent that one can make a quick profit.
I bought an ex demonstrator with 340 miles on the clock. I tried both standard and SP and the only bit I wanted from the SP was the quick shifter which I absolutely love. I had it fitted by the garage I bought the bike from and they did a deal on it. I'm not a track day person so did not think the SP warranted the extra money same engine weight etc and the brembo brakes didn't feel any different to me on the road. I would highly recommend taking out a demo SP and playing with the Quick Shifter it's just so much fun and sounds fantastic worth the money.
Fantastic looking bike - I love the red Honda and gold covers LOL. And isn't it interesting how Honda first claims super limited numbers then finds all these extra bikes after not being able to deliver for almost a year
Yes, very interesting. I think Honda itself overestimated the interest in the bike, and I refer specifically to the SP2. My view is that Honda expected rush orders from race teams. On that basis there would have been very few - if any - available to the public, hence the forecast of 'limited numbers'. An 'homologation special' would ordinarily be well anticipated and sought after, but as I have said in many posts, I think the Blade has seen its day. The big question for us both is: 'Where are they all?' Of course I'm aware of your 'register'. From that we see that most of the sub-100 numbers are in USA, with my #130 here and #180 in Europe(?). So what about 200 to 500? Are they not yet produced? Will we see the SP2 run continued into 2019-20 just to sell them? In opposition, I have just read that Norton has pre-sold more than 200 of its new V4, with first delivery expected in June - clear evidence that Honda has stiff opposition in the 'special bike' market!..
Hi Yellowblade. After a bit more riding and tinkering, you might have found the SP's suspension adjustability to have been an added bonus also. I must admit though, that I have ridden a standard 2017-18. I might try to line that up, but my local dealer doesn't have one to demo. What colour did you buy?
It's not, that's just for the part. I enquired about it for the missus new blade too, but it's just not worth it. And she is more than capable of shifting FAF without it.
Hi Nigelrb I have no doubt the suspension on the SP is very good unfortunately the limiting factor is me although that is also the case for all of the bike which I will get nowhere near its potential. I have the victory red the QS was £500 fitted. I suppose it all depends on how keen the dealer is to sell. I also bought the seat cowl from South Georgia Honda which saved about fourth quid. I'm keen to get the Honda higher screen but haven't seen one yet .
Try Zero Gravity screens. Have one on my blade currently, just a double bubble one, but they have a few different style including high ones.
I have a Puig on mine. A good compromise between performance and aesthetics, I think https://puig.tv/en/tuning-motos/windscreens-for-fairing-bikes/racing-screen?bike=20853
Hi dgr That is why I have gone for the Honda racing screen on my 08 and 12 because it gives reasonable protection without messing up the lines of the bike. Strangely it is not even listed in the Honda accessories for tje 2017 which saves me an arm and a leg.
