Any thoughts on the Shoei X14 helmet? As an MSF instructor, I can get a helmet once a year from Shoei for 30% off list. I picked the Bradley Smith X14 in the link below. https://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/shoei-x-14-bradley-3-helmet I currently have a Shoei RF1200 but it's a bit too big on me. Do any of you have experience with the X14? I tried one on at a local shop and it is a phenomenal helmet.
Hello Spygoat, Delighted you like the Shoei. I have only worn Arai since 1996 so I can’t really comment. But as you are getting 30% discount sounds like a great deal to me. Good luck mate.
Got the Marquez TC-1 one and a half years ago, and it's simply the best helmet I've ever tried. Came from a AGV GPPro (garbage), then a NEXX XR1.R (garbage), and then Shoei XR1000 (RF1000) and Shoei XR1100 (RF1100) which were good helmets, but this is really a step above. Before getting the X14 I seriously considered getting a Bell Race Star Triton Red, but it was hard to find a store in Portugal that would retail those even for a try on, so I kept to what I know, and went for the Shoei. In your case, 30% off, its a no brainer, but I would love to get the opportunity to test different brands in a real ride for a couple of days, instead of just trying them out in the stores. Trying them is one thing, ride with them for a period of time is another.
I got the X Spirit III (X14 in the US), and have worn it this season. It is a great helmet, huge improvement over my AGV K4-EVO. Lightweight, good aerodynamics, premium shields etc. My only negative is that after 3-4 months of use now, my internal headliner has started to be a little lose around my head. Feels like i got more room in the cheek area. Might consider getting some new ones, or do something with the ones i have.
I solved this with an Oxford balaclava. Available in cotton, wool, lycra etc. Most bike shops and online: https://www.thevisorshop.com/en/gb/...9AaBUStbWpFRfW9SF0VvMFcsD7WOUEXhoC7QIQAvD_BwE Pads out the looseness and also saves the lining from wear and errant hair loss. The added bonus is turning it back-to-front during bedroom daliances!
Bloody hell. Give someone an inch and they'll take a mile. With a head already encased by a helmet, a cotton balaclava is hardly going to make any comfort difference except to the fit of the helmet. Am I to assume, @hitch , that with this 'summer heat' you might choose to ride 'commando'?
