I saw a post some time back with info about joining wires. I think it might have been one of the 'tail tidy' threads. Can't find it without spending ages. I need to join some wiring on my little aprilia and someone, maybe @Kevin1 showed some crimping or similar connectors. Would someone guide me in the right direction please? Ta! PS I know there's a heap on ebay; I'd prefer to know of a reasonably good product.
I usually use the one you crimp and heat to shrink. But I've started using the ones with low heat melt solder type stuff. No need to crimp just feed the wires in. And heat. The solder melts then the heat shrink shrinks and it's seal with a glue all in one go.
HI All, Been a while. Great post, I have attached a link on using solder sleeve terminals. But for me been very old school trained, If accessible, and if a permanent joint is required, I always solder & heat shrink my wires. If the area of the wiring joint is less accessible, close to a bodywork panel or trim etc. Were heat cannot be applied especially on a low amp feed wire, then I use ordinary wire crimp joints.
Solder & use heat shrink for your cables as much as you can dude it's always the best connection wherever you can use it.
Agreed 100%. If you solder and heat shrink it, you'll never be at risk of it coming loose. Much cleaner as well.
They are and they aren't. I prefer actually joining the wires and then sleeving them. I have had those dodgy crimp sleeves come loose at a very inopportune time (track day) causing me to miss out on the remaining sessions for a day. To each their own though. My methods may not suit you or others. As long as it gets the job done effectively, go for it! I'm the kind of person that will shy away from something if I've had a bad result in the past.
crimp or solder: they are both good. for me , crimp is easier and more practical specially if disconneting but prone to oxidization. Soler is more messy but it is a sealed connection. But it can be prone to cracking over time if not done properly and off course to disconnect, you have to de-solder
