How did you get on? Bennett’s have quoted me £978! That’s with 9 years no claims. They also can’t seem to understand that my bike is the standard 2017 blade and not an SP2!! My insurance is due at the end of the month and I’m not going back with Bennett’s. They have had my business for at least 5 years but now they’re taking the p@ss with the renewal quote.
These insurance stories are amazing. If you see my post No. 31, you'll see that Bennetts came up trumps for the 2 bikes. I'm sure it will be unbeatable, but still waiting on BeMoto after giving them all my details/requirements on 21 Feb with follow-up on 1 March. MCE tried shafting me with a more expensive renewal. The more I read of these threads, the more I feel that insurance is just a lottery. Each owner on here has tales both good and bad of various companies. My view is that we must keep phoning around for the best deal. Loyalty counts for absolutely frig all now!
So gave BeMoto a call yesterday to see what they could do for me and once again they couldn't beat Bennets. I haven't had a renewal quote from them yet but this is the quotes I've been getting. Both policies exactly the same. BeMoto quoting me £233, £100 more than Bennetts.
I hope your next thought was "I best send Charlie a message on the forum asking if he wants my exhaust"
For those who have followed this, despite giving BeMoto adequate notice, they never returned to me with a quote. Chased them today, for multi-bike quote on 2018 and 2011 Blades. I like to be upfront, so advised that Bennetts had quoted 588.75 for the two. I'm then told they couldn't even do the 2018 (SP2) for that!! I jump back to Bennetts to reconfirm. Friggin no record of the quote for multi bike, only the 2018 on there for the £588.75. I can see the quids multiplying like Kanye West's legal bills. I get him to re quote the two bikes. Comes back to me with £528.67. Withholding my excitement, I say: 'Shit, that much for two?' 'It is full comp, we could try third party, fire and theft if you like.' 'So that's full comp on the two bikes?' 'Yes.' I am rubbing my hands as if I'd won the lottery: 'Ah, okay. we'll go ahead then.' Friggin' rapt. As prev mentioned, MCE had quoted renewal of £730-plus just for the SP2. I'm so happy I feel like going out to buy another bike. I'll show some restraint and go to Maccas instead
Go and buy another bike Nigel. It's the responsible thing to do in the face of cheaper than you expected insurance
Don't push a vulnerable man with willpower lower than a Catholic priest's. My aim was to have all bikes insured under just one roof, but it wouldn't work out. This was such an unexpected windfall. 'Dissolving' my number 2 RS50 on ebay at the moment, so I'll be all 'cashed up' next week. Still can't shake that Anniversary R1 from my mind!
Just purchased my new policy for my 2017 blade. Bennett’s re-quoted me £581 from £971 on auto renewal but I still thought that was too much. In the end I got full comprehensive from MCE with roadside assistance, helmet and leathers cover for just £371. Happy is an understatement
Just done the BSA And my renewal was £75 Compare the market £85 Go compare £70 Rang my insurance and they then done it for £70 Now I’m pis### off with myself because I should not of gone with them because they did not give me the cheap quote first Should of gone with go compare
My car insurance broker offered to price match when I rang to cancel the auto renewal, apparently as it was with the same insurer they could do that. Told them they already had their chance to do right by me and hadn't so I was still leaving.
Good on both of you. I play a hard line on this too. No one likes being shafted, but when these companies reduce their price because of competition and not because of offering us the service of the best deal they just don't deserve our custom.
There's been a bit of a debate on other forums lately about how appalling MCE are in the event of a claim. I've read stories of people waiting 5yrs for a payout from them. Even contesting dash cam footage and police reports about liability and still messing around with the payouts.
Bennetts has copped similar bad vibes, but we must acknowledge that we (in most cases) do not know the full facts of the claim. I have never had to make a claim for either bike or car, BUT I fear the dramas if ever that should happen. I imagine it would be a fight to the death with most insurers. Remember, the brokers might be as nice as pie - deal with the underwriters and it's a different story. We live in the age of 'deny and deflect'. Honesty, contracts, and policies stand for little, and that be from government officers (including Prime Minister) down to couples pledging their vows at the altar.
I know Bennetts paid me promptly back in 2009 but a lot changes in that time. I'm currently in gobsmacked mode when the adverts from Insurers on the TV are now saying they pay out 100% of all valid claims! It seems like doing what you are supposed to do is a selling point these days, puts me in a right grumpy old git shouting at the TV mode
I'm moving in a few weeks and my bike insurance will only have a month left to run on the move date. It's with MCE and was fully paid for the year.... So I checked their cancellation policy and seems I get zip back AND they want to rape me for £32 admin fees Thieving barstewards! Anyone or @T.C know a legal way around this...
