OK I have a Ltr or so of 10w40 qhat I kept for topping up the speed triple. It never used any oil.

So thinking about the blade. just checked and its recommended 10W30 oil

Worth getting the right stuff? and what make do people recommend? Use?

Yes bike oil is expensive but I believe it is bloody important so worth paying the extra for the right stuff.

    thoughts?

I always use motil 5100 on my bikes.

    10 40

Just had my first service a couple of weeks back and used it on he blade too

1300 miles on it now and not used a drop

Always used it in my race bikes and my enduro bike and it's good stuff

10 40 is fine for our climate.

10w-30 fine for all year with quick warm up. The main thing is to make sure whichever oil you use it has the correct specs it should be on the black sticker near the oil filler cap some JASO & API spec numbers from memory. most of the known brands like Motul, Castrol, Silkolene etc etc should meet these but check before you buy some don't.
Good site to mail order from is Opie Oils
or hein gericke sell Motul or Fowlers stock lots of Silkolene which is recomended for Hondas., Best to use the same oil for topping up with if needed.

As for fully or semi you can read pro's v con's all day long and not find an answer. Either will be ok its more important that you change it regular as recommended or sooner especially if you take it on track alot.

I was advised to not use fully syn on the blade until it's got a few thou on the clock

Will use probably use fully syn on it's next service (1 year).

I'm pleased with that motul I use though.

Some bikes, not necessarilly Blades suffer clutch slip with fully synth. I've always used semi.

checked the oil after a great ride out today

bike has done 1000 miles since first service and TBH this is the first time ive checked it since the service

the dipstick showed about mid way, i put 100ml in and its at the upper level now

100ml for 1000miles on a new engine is pretty good i reckon

I would just use what the book says to use.

I bought Silkolene 10/30 Semi Synthetic.

I've done about 700 miles since picking the bike up and the oil level hasn't move which I have been quite suprised about.

700 miles and no oil usuage on a 2009 Repsol Blade. It defo won't be using 1ltr per 1000miles that the service book says may be the case.

I have the same grade of oil but a different make. was highly recommended not to use fully and the blade has not used a drop since the 600 mils service. now on 15000 miles. after talking to opie oils they say the motul 10w40 is ideal for the blade. All good so far

Mine went about 1000 miles (after first service) without using any but it has used a bit over the past 500 or so miles.

No more than any other bike I've had I reckon though
