hi guys, thoughts please? time for new skids, currently running metzeler racetec rr k3s but thiniking of trying dunlop d212 as an alternative, after grip as oppose longevity, bike is used for lively spins on road, dont ride in wet... cheers
I ran D212 on my blade, awesome for dry track grip, takes a little bit of time to warm up on roads, but hot once they stick like "S*it to a blanket" crap in the rain and cold... I now run SC1&2 V3 on track and road (summer only) they are also very good tyres, but both are more track tyres that can be used on roads, SC seem to warm up faster i feel, but problery not much in it. SC run a little harder 23-26psi cold (track use) as softer carcass, D212 run lower 16-18psi cold on track as stiffer carcass but I use M7rr in cold and wet....
How are you finding the racetec rr? I've just put a set on after using the previous gen interacts. Only done 1 proper ride but cant fault them.
All of the above are good, as long as you are aware that race rubber is only sticky when hot. They're generally very slippy when cold and even worse in the wet, which is why many people run road tyres on track as they heat up faster. It all comes down to what group you run in. The quicker you are on track, the stickier you want your rubber, which will mean less focus on being a road tyre for all round use.
i liked them, from what i know there a control tyre for TT, i think in supersport and superstock, so figured they be decent and they were, longevity decent on them too, i went for the 200 rear as oppose 190... near 50 quid cheaper than the dunlops too
cheers for all the replys, i asked about the dunlops 212 today, and the shop said the same and what i already knew about been dodge when cold, i also asked which compound i should run as they run from 1-5 but he didnt seem to know, id of guessed 4 maybe on rear anyway..only thing i be weary of with the dunlops is, when out spinning with few mates, and u stop for the usual, smoke, bollox talk, food, etc and u forget ur on dunlops and get excited too soon and bin it... had visions of that classic vid of the dude on the k7 coming out of shop on brand new bike and binning it so i opted for metzeler again, him having them in stock also helped make mind up as spinning the weekend ... maybe next time dunlop
It was, but it's the 213 now. I only know this because I bought one from one of the teams while I was there this year Pic 3 https://www.1000rr.co.uk/threads/muffking-at-the-tt-today.37588/#post-495683 Be careful with the profiles though as they run a 200/70. Bike's gonna look like a penny farthing when I fit it On a serious note, don't forget what I said about tyre temperature still stands with these tyres. Great on track or for road racers, but I got spat off a few years ago on a cold November as I was a bit green when it came to tyres back then.
Yeah got spat off my blade in cold day in winter running the d212 on the road , only use when warm road or track day for sure, I run my SC1&2 on road and they warm up well, but would not use in wet or cold
Be careful with the profiles though as they run a 200/70. Bike's gonna look like a penny farthing when I fit it wow thats insane, i thought the profiles only went up to 65[/QUOTE]
Well I used mine on track days and road with 2 front and 4 rear, think it was medium soft front and medium hard rear? But not sure as run SC1 front and SC2 rear for a few years now
cheers mate, just looking pressure chart from metzeler for the k3s, 36 front 42 rear seems bit high to me, guy that fitted them said 32, ill play around with em tomorrow, 36, 38 maybe ..
