I've never done any track days and have only had my bike a few months(and not used it much due to the weather) which track would be best to start on or would the Ron haslam school be a better place to start?

It depends on your abilities, how you ride, what your riding and what you want out of it.

Get yourself booked on the official fireblade 20th anniversary trackday as we have some very good instructors coming along!

Tracks like Mallory might not seem the most demanding but being short, it does help with improving riding ability, ....... plus its great fun !! Ron Haslam School is good too but you wont get as much track time as you do on a dedicated track day, as for everyone "the first one is the worst one" but it soon becomes very addictive.....!

Thanks, I think improving my riding ability would be better then just going as fast as poss round a track!

I wouldn't bother with a race school for your first trackday. Do one later when you've got over the initial nerves and are comfortable on track and you will get much more out of it.

Brands Hatch looks like your nearest track, the Indy circiut is short and easy to learn. Just get yourself booked into the novice group and go for it.

As Rob says you will get addicted.

Some good advice in this thread

I did Pembrey as my first TD last year. which was a great track and I loved it. i Was thinking of a race school But £89 for the day compared to £400 for RH I would rather do 4 TD's and make use of the instructors on the day.

    Hey Al
I remember my first track day at Donnington bout 10 years ago. Sat on the grid on my RR-R blade, my pride and joy at the time a-b-s-o-l-u-t-l-e-y kakking my pants, mouth as dry as a bone, nerves kicking in etc. The first 2 laps I hated it, it was not what I was expecting, I was trying too hard to keep up with others. Then it dawned on me that I was there to enjoy myself so I settled into it and didn't want to stop :) I got quicker too as I was just flowing from corner to corner. What I'm trying to say is just enjoy it and don't put pressure on yourself to keep up with others, there will be others on smaller bikes that will come past you but don't let that bother you. Just enjoy the whole experience which ever track you start on and as abv says above join the novice group first, don't get drawn in to pressure from others and enjoy it. And yes it is addictive :)
Stay on the black stuff and not the green stuff mate!

Don't worry about trackdays for now mate, just ride your bike as often as possible in all but extreme conditions. Learn your bike in your own good time and without the pressure of loadsapeople going faster than you. Go on your favourite bendy, fast road and enjoy it. If you must do a trackday, wait till everyone else has gone and enjoy riding alone untill they lap you!

Brands Hatch Indy to start, small and easy to learn. Then you MUST do Brands Hatch GP.

    No Limits are good company

Tape up your mirrors (if you want but its advised), noise limit for brands i believe is 102db. Ensure you have both parts of your license or ACU race license, 1 piece leathers, good gloves and boots and a full tank of gas.

    thats pretty much it
