Morning, I was a tad surprised although I admittedly haven’t ridden my bike for around a month due to holiday and work commitments I went to go out today and found the battery dead?! Having had a couple of S1000R Sports before they would hold charge with no issues even if not ridden over the winter. Is this a Honda thing or is it rare as was a tad surprised!
My '16 SP is kept on a battery tender as it does not get ridden on the street as much as my other bikes. I have had the battery drain in a month before, so not unusual in my experiences. I would invest in a nice trickle charger if the bike will sit for prolonged periods of time.
I had my black edition on an optimate charger and the battery still went bad - changed to a lithium with suitable new trickle charger and alls been good since. Someone said that even the hiss flashing LED can pull the battery down after a month if you’re not on a TC. True or not I’ve turned my LED off on the dash option. Let’s be honest it isn’t going to deter anyone looking to pinch the bike anyway.
My 2017 standard blade has been left for 3 weeks in January (in my garage) and it's started no problem following that. It has a tracker fitted. When you parked up, had you just done a short run or two? I'm thinking about getting a trickle charger for when I have more than one bike. At the moment, I can't leave the blade alone for longer than a week - just have to play with it!
SP2 has lithium battery as standard. I suspect that it's just the HISS system that's drawn the current. Perhaps not a favourable comparison with the BMW as they'd be different systems. Thanks I'll invest in one. It's got the Tracker fitted and not subscribed to it but guess that and like you say the Honda HISS is probably drawing power just a bit disappointed to be honest but hey ho
Ah yes, and I seem to recall that the capacity of the lithium battery in the SP / SP2 is lower than that in the standard blade which has a lead acid battery (weight difference is probably equivalent to a nice bowl of porridge), so I imagine that'll make a difference too. Don't know whether lead acid hold their charge better than Li-ion..
From what I’ve heard its the other way round and the lithium holds its charge for a lot longer than a lead acid. Not based on any facts or figures just gossip
You are right, they do hold charge longer and in theory don't need to be kept topped up, as it were, but if there is anything draining on them, they do drain a lot quicker than a lead acid.
Also the lithium bats generally have a lower capacity than lead acid, so any drain will kill them. if you have an old charger and from Yorkshire just plug in to a 24h timer on for 15min a day job done. or if posh do some retail therapy and get a dedicated charger. failing that ride it more often
Mine lives outside, the poor thing, so it's not really practical to have mains leads running to it. I use a solar charger (Halfords) & it's kept my batteries alive for years. I thought it had broken so bought a couple of Chinese ones from eBay (£6 ea). Those things can produce 17 volts on a sunny day! The Halfords job had a blown fuse (found after I cut the leads off to recycle the croc clips!). Got busy with the soldering iron & it works a treat.
I'd dismantle the tracker, never had one fitted on any bike I've owned, and I've had a few in the last 5 year. I may ask before I collect my SP2 from Dealer next week I will ask him to remove it. If your think I'm mad, but method is if its been stolen I don't want it back !!
The tracker is fitted by request. H.I.S.S doesn't really drain the battery enough. Tracker? It wouldn't last anywhere near a month without a battery tender.
Spoke to dealer yesterday tracker is fitted on request at a cost. Although ad description does say tacker is fitted ???

I'm not so sure about that, as I think it is possible to 'upgrade' to a lithium battery without any modifications to your original charging system. I could be wrong & am happy to be corrected on this but, as long as the voltage going in is higher than the battery voltage, it should charge.
