wondered if it would be possible to see some pictures of your R+G tail tidys on 08-11 blades ideally. Wondering how different size plates look. Cheers
Thanks all, the R+G tail does look tidy if you’ll pardon the pun Think that’s the one I’ll go for then!
And now for the pièce de résistance. At MoT time you will need a reflector. Here is the solution. I used these nice eliptical reflectors on mine. The glue is crap so they don't stay on for long, but hey, they fit snug over the R & G logo https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/12-Mulit...204464&hash=item1cc6a31684:g:yU8AAOSwN3NcOiSq
Hi @nigelrb - are your ears ringing?? Nice simple job I thought to take the plate off and do the back in black... The sticky pads had a hell of a grip and needed cutting through. So taking them off the tail tidy with a stanley blade leaves me requiring sandpaper and spray!! Oh, yes the purpose of my post. I also have the elliptical reflector hiding the R & G logo, is this big enough for the MOT??
My reflector was about 20mm and that was ok https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/253475935902
To be honest I’m not sure I have got any I will have to have a look because mine is due it’s first mot December
Thanks guys. The thing i took off was about 3 1/2” x 1 1/4” but the elliptical one is the perfect size to hide the R&G advert
I just went one size down from horrible looking legal size plate (which is shit) so i didn't draw attention to the authorities too much. Going any smaller is not worth the stress of hassle for me tbh.
My plate is exactly 195mm x 164mm (7 11/16” x 6 7/16”) and is completely legal. Luckily i have a ‘1’ so the letter spacing allowed it to be trimmed slightly and it fits perfectly between the indicators. You wouldn’t want to get on the wrong side of the Bobbies after all LL
Most likely will run an 8x6 plate as I only have 6 digits in the reg so the letters can be correct size and spacing. As I’ve read before (but don’t quote me) plate size is irreverent, it’s all about the size and spacing of the letters/numbers. Happens to be that my MoT tester has some common sense and knows a smaller plate ends up going straight back on so uses discretion. He also wouldn’t fail if you had a rear seat on and no rear foot pegs. Had some really anal testers before and some make a mountain out of a mole hole. Mine makes sure the bike is safe but is fair imo. Thanks for all the pics etc, think I’ll give the Aussie one a miss and go for something more tried and tested!
Good stuff and you are right, it is size, spacing and distance from edge that governs the overall minimum size. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.motorcyclenews.com/amp/news/2018/july/legal-advice-motorbike/
Interesting that article notes "The worst areas for number plate offences (2015-2017)". What is should say is: The areas in which police are most aggressive in number plate prosecutions. One cannot define this 'offence' by 'area' alone. It must lie to regional police attitudes about the importance of apprehending a rider who chooses to display a couple of inches undersize plate. Some regions seem to acknowledge that there are far more important areas of the community to police.
Argghhhh! Been looking to purchase a R+G tail tidy this week, there’s two versions! Which one is the better one? Will be going on a 2011 bike! Cheers
I didn't know there was two versions. To find the best, can't you match them up with the pics we've posted?
There seems to be! From some of the pictures I think I can find out which one it is. If not I’ll just hope I order the best one
