After cleaning my bike for the first time I have come across some lacquer peeling from both wheels. I am a bit gutted I didn't notice it at inspection prior to buying it (from a Honda dealer) but hey ho. Has anyone else had this on a 2014 bike as I think its a bit poor as the bike is quite young. Obviously I don't know the cleaning from the 1 previous owner but the rest of the bike is immaculate.
Either get straight back to the dealer or get him/her on the phone and explain. You've only had it five minutes, they are obligated to help. Incidentally who is the dealer?
Nah, doubt they'd cover that. It's 'wear and tear' and might be expected of a 5-year-old bike. Possibly, a previous owner has steam or pressure cleaned the wheels at too a high a temp or pressure and that is the result. Only way to fix would be to remove and repaint and lacquer.
I'd still be going back to them, moaning and groaning...you never know, they might repair them or offer half or something else? Give it a try you've nothing to lose.
A little update, well done Wigan Honda. Got the bike back with newly painted and lacquered wheels foc. soooooo pleased.
They're my nearest dealer and although I've never had a bike off them I've always been impressed with the staff there. Seem like a good bunch.
Glad you got sorted - had mine in to them last week for service and first mot. You must be pleased to have bought the bike from them in the first place (as they’re a trek away from you in Leeds) as they have come up trumps now
That is a great result, I guess you asked them very nicely. I wonder if the previous owner used a mild acid-based wheel cleaner to get the brake dust off. I made that mistake once, never ever again will (wheel) I...
Don't think I'm crazy, but a soft cloth with Mr Sheen is ideal for that. Will also remove minor chain lube fling also.
I normally use polish to clean the wheels and never had any issues. Just need to get rid of the chicken strips now
WD40 is great for cleaning wheels, as apparently is GT85 which Aldi are supposed to have on offer every now and then.
I normally use engine degreaser, then wash off and soapy water, then polish. If it’s just a dry wash I’m doing I use vulcanet wipes followed by autoglym super sheen. Glad you got sorted Alan, wheels look amazing now
It might not have been the original paint on the wheels. It's a possibility the previous owner had them repainted or relaquerd poorly? Anyway a good result in the end. And yes...... Now time to get rid of your chicken breasts, sorry I meant strips
