Update: Decided to go for option 2. Explained the situation to the dealer, including the recognition of Honda regarding the sound of the engine. Although the seller stated it was just a sound, and could be anything, thus refusing to repair the engine, he offered an interesting solution. He has a late 2009 ABS HRC model in stock, and offered to trade in my motorcycle. Although it has not the updated crank, it lacks the annoying crank whine. As wheelies or popping the clutch are not my thing, I do not expect future problems. Made a fair deal paying some extra for ABS, less milage and renewed warranty.
Glad you got a solution you were happy with but I hope the bit I highlighted in red does not come back to bike you in the ass!!!
Sorry to dig up a old post but is this problem linked in anyway to 3rd gear loss?,, i just cant belive that honda would not sort that issue all the way up to 2016. Also the fact I've only ever seen bikes from 2008 to 11 have faulty 3rd gear i just wont belive it.
If anyone else has an issue or wants to check if a recall was issued just go to gov.co.uk? Enter your reg or chassis number and it comes up Worked for me. Had the 16,000 mile service at a Honda dealer and got a new fuel cell on a honda recall that had been outstanding 7 years
