Afternoon everyone, I've got an issue with my track bike which has developed a misfire. I have done a few searches and forum reading but can't seem to pin point any similar threads who have actually sorted the problem. Here are some further details, Problem - Misfire under 4k rpm only when hot, runs fine when cold. Anything over 4k the bike runs as it normally would weather its hot or cold. Bike once hot under 4k will jerk intermittently and will also sound like not all cylinders are firing intermittently. No eml light. Bike details - 2009 fireblade, stock ecu, no quick shifter, pc or bazaar etc. My initial thoughts are plugs as they can do strange things sometimes so I have got some on order.... perhaps coils but it just seems strange with the temperature and above 4k everything is good! Any help would be much appreciated and I' praying it won't take to many parts to replace to get to the bottom of it! Cheers, James
Go straight for the plugs. It's the easiest thing you can do to try and sort it, before things start to get really involved. Plus it's what I did when my 2006 track Blade had a misfire. Cured the problem instantly.
Yes got some of those on order, got the plugs in the bike out today and they look okay which I suppose is a good sign its not something more serious! Can't tell by looking at them if they're good or not though!! Will update this post once the new ones are in. Any further suggestions would be appreciated.. Cheers
Yeah mine looked fine too. Like you say, it does mean that there is nothing seriously wrong with the engine, but it could just be that they break down at high temp, or high rpm in my case.
My pal's gixer thou' had a low rev misfire. Was one of the stick coils causing it. No idea how you go about finding an intermittant fault in coils but it might be worth checking the connectors and the coil resistances while you're in changing the plugs.
Okay so update on the misfire. Got round to fitting a set of new plus to the bike yesterday and she runs spot on now Idles really well again and no misfire. I guess it was a good place to start and thankfully sorted the problem! Thanks for your suggestions too. James
