My 2017 cbr1000rr has had an oil leak from the right side of the engine for quite some time. I have read on these forums that other owners have had this problem as well. The oil leaks out of the right side of the lower fairing. This oil leak has caused me to have quite an adventure with this motorcycle. The oil leak recently got way out of hand at a race event. I believed it was leaking from the right crank case (and still believe this was part of the problem). The crazy amount of oil that was coming out was actually due to a k&n oil filter which k&n has already agreed to reimburse me for several oil filters I have (diff. subject, see oil change video). The oil filter was changed and the right crank case was resealed as shown in the video. The problem seemed to be completely fixed, however after several hundred miles the same area seems to be sweating out oil again, definitely not as much as before where it was making the entire lower right side fairing greasy but still making the outside of the oil pan a little greasy. I have read others say that it could be coming from my oil pressure switch, which I guess will have to be one of our videos (part 2?). I will say that resealing the right crank case/clutch cover did help reduce the amount of oil that was coming out significantly.

Use a gasket, so much easier to install - might be a crutch to clean off though if need to change again!

I definitely plan on using a gasket next time I find myself removing the right crank case cover. Where do you purchase your right crank case cover gasket?

Just got mine off of ebay for £12 I think. On the 2007 I just used the gasket, so sealant. Yeah it's more expensive than gasket seal but much less of a pain in the ass to fit on without messing up (and the 2007 case is a fiddly bugger to get on - used the manually rotating engine trick to get the shafts line up, that helped a lot!)
