Can’t believe it the OPs woes have turned into an outpouring reminiscent to a lonely hearts club. Bikers Lives Matter that’s clear more than ever now
It's the variability in what you get that puts me off. I've seen some genuinely frightening riding, so prefer to be on my own or with trusted friends.
there are some crazy people on here?! I thought we'd all be sensible, and isn't there a saying, something about variety being the spice of life, oh hang on, no, that's not the one, it's: there are many bold riders, but not many old bold riders (not to be confused with bald riders - which I'm well on my way to becoming!).
As it goes got a bit of a moral dilemma here, went out with my oldests future father in law with his R6 a couple of weeks ago for the first time, really nice guy but it was a bit of an eye opener as he couldn’t keep up, ordinarily I wouldn’t hold it against a guy, but I was on me 400!!, so now I have been waiting for the right moment to have the difficult discussion with my boy, and tell him he needs to find a bird whose old man can give it a bit of welly on a ride out. The weddings 2 years away, so not too much cost spunked on that yet, but the house and daughter they have might just be a little more complicated, not sure how he will take it, but I’m sure if I stand the beers all night he will come round OK.
My lad is more confident than me on his CBR500R, so he has to wait for me on my 'blade. Am I bovvered? nah
The CBR500R can really go. My son has one. But it was still fun to show him a geriatric 400 stroker could stay in front in Italy
Guys, I am truly blessed with all the offers to meet and join in your rides. I'm going to hopefully meet up with some of you soon and look to make new friendships based on a common theme. I'm not one to ride like a loon so wouldn't expect anyone to slow up for me, I don't hang around either! Just the prospect of mixing up some rides with others hopefully is enough for me to get my mojo back. I'd love to get back to the point where with a group of friends can go back over to Germany and the mosel Valley and Nurgburgring having picked the touring bug up from an uncle who has now retired.
Oh the Nurburgring......happy memories for me too. A great place and I can get there on 2 tanks of petrol from my house !
It's even worse down here in Cornwall at the moment, 2 years ago out most Sundays and Tuesday nights some Thursdays, out of the 10 that did the trip to Spain, only 5 left with bikes. I've been out twice since lockdown lapsed with a group, plus twice on my own to get mileage for 1st service. And a few times with the Mrs on the ZZR Police are everywhere down here aswell. I got 3 points for doing 71mph on the main A30 which at the place I was caught is a 60mph at 8.15 pm nothing else on the road, a cop bike hiding on a bridge with barriers so you couldn't see him ...wanker. But we all fill up at services meeting point, always agree a route and pretty much stop ever 45 minutes or so, everyone regroups. We are fairly considerate in that respect. Heading home is a free for all, a whats app message to say you arrived home.
Can’t believe my offer of a free barm cake couldn’t tempt you down to the Southern Badlands.......the worlds not the same place as it was just a few months ago
Couple of options not covered (unless I missed it in which case sorry)... You could join the IAM or similar and you'll get loads of ride outs that once you're up to speed with the system that will be swift without being nuts. I did the course last year but don't go on the ride outs because when I have there always seems to be someone who think they're taking the kids on a school trip to the zoo (follow the umbrella!) which makes it less fun but you might find a group you like. Secondly, if you don't already do track days then definitely do them. I did 4 or 5 last year and have done 2 so far this year in novices and have never failed to find nice people to chat to all day long. Really recommend it.
