Hi all, I've done a bit of a search but and there are the usual answers but wanted to ask specifically about my problem. When revving (in any gear as far as i can tell) the engine will misfire a bit between 8 and 9k RPM. It can rev past this and will run fine afterwards up to the redline. What can cause such a specific misfire issue? I thought initially something to do with fuel but it pulls well after but it misfires a bit getting there around 8000 RPM. I went through a couple of tanks with fresh fuel and I also replaced the air filter (as this is all I had at the track) but the problem persisted. So far I've read it could be the following: - Spark plugs - Fuel line pinch - Fuel filter - Coils loose or faulty - Side-stand switch loose or faulty? Any help is appreciated. I will post a video of the issue as it was happening on track shortly. Thanks, Ben
So here is the video: at 3:52 as i get onto the straight going up in 2nd at 8 and 9k you can hear and see it happen and then i 3rd too.
I had to change the plugs on my 2006 track Blade at 13k for a similar problem. It was misfiring from the mid revs all the way to the red line. Replacing them cured my fault straight away. I can only assume that one of the plugs was dodgy, although I could't tell by looking at them.
Old thread I know be see that you are still an active member. Did a set of plugs sort it out? If not what was the fix? Having the same issue on my 06. Cheers.
So many of these threads just leave you hanging just when you think you are getting a possible fix at the end
New plugs are here but waiting on a set of coils coming, if it sorts it out I will never know what fixed it but will save me going in there twice and a duff coil fouling up my nice new plugs.
Interestingly enough, I had a 1100 Blackbird that started doing a similar thing intermittently. Changed the plugs, air filter and generally fettled about with it and no joy. One day I filled it up with super unleaded and no more misfiring. I later fitted aftermarket cans and a power commander with a generic map, with that combination I was able to use standard unleaded again with no issues.
Yep. 1st rule of a missfire on these is to go straight for the plugs, but if he wants to change the child too then it makes sense to do them at the same time. although the coils may be fine.
I had a misfire between 3 and 4K, any gear, cold or hot but fine everywhere else. The bike was 7 years old but had only done 750 miles, that turned out to be plugs. I had to access the stick coils to fit a quick shifter and changed the plugs just because I was nearly there and it fixed it.
Seen a lot of ideas over the years of curing misfires, but trading the kids in for new ones......that’s a first on me
Plugs and coils chucked at it ( got a set of coils for less than the cost of the plugs). Bike was running sweet for a few hundred miles after that. So I pulled the air scoop again and refitted the quickshifter, exhaust and power commander. Back in love and feels like a new bike....
On individual coil stick machines, I feel that plug and coil issues could appear to be sorted by replacing either due to disturbing a poor connection b I can live with not knowing, The thought of a full rebuild to find it was still fu@ked and I needed to remove the air intake again was not appealing. I did remove again eventually to refit the quickshifter but that’s different .
