Laser Eye Surgery Anyone had it, what do you think, did it work? I was very ill a while back with stress related issues which included mega high blood pressure that could have killed me if it had not been brought under control. Problem is at that time the pressure damaged my eyes and therefore now I have to wear varied focal glasses. Or contact lens if I don’t plan on reading anything. Wearing contacts on the bike is a nightmare with the draft drying them out very quickly and glasses are a pain in the arse with a helmet on. I have been told that I might want to consider laser surgery which will correct everyday vision and just wear glasses to read etc. It’s expensive and I was wondering if anyone has any experience and the results that where achieved. Thank you in advance for any advice you can give me. Yours sincerely Mr McGoo
I have perfect eyesight so don't need any correction thank you miss. But seriously, I wear a single contact lens and on the bike it can play havoc, but I've got a pair of wraparound shades that fit inside my helmet that have foam padding around the edge and they make a perfect fit. I'm on the look out for some identical, Yellow high contrast ones for night and winter riding.
Who said that, I know your there somewhere. I have seen yellow lens shades somewhere or other but maybe that was without my glasses on, I am not sure now. Thanks guys
I've seen a few pairs out there, even Screwfix do some good safety ones, but without the seal they're even worse than an open visor.
Heard only good things from family and friends who have had it done Only thing I have been told by professionals that your eyes can change a lot up to 40. So worth waiting till after that. Only another 5 years to go for me
It's a thing that's put me off looking deeper into this. What happens if your prescription changes? Can you have it done a second time?
Ten years over forty in May so not an issue, unless I am a late starter. Ken, just a thought, try using a wet wipe rather than a brillo. just an idea.
I don't know about that. I can't see wet wipes getting them clean enough. Can you get wet wipes with Domestos in them?
Had it done just over 10 years ago, and would highly recommend it. The improvement in quality of everyday life is amazing, from riding to swimming to just waking up and being able to see without having to fiddle around with lenses/glasses. Everyone I know who has had it done has felt the same. The procedure is very routine nowadays. If you do decide to have it done, google around for the best places in terms of patient care. As a rule, if you're charging as little as £395 per eye (no names) then there's little margin for things like patient care, although I presume they do spend some money on the conveyor belts.
I had my eyes lasered in June of last year, and i have to say its the best money ever spent!! after wearing contact lenses for 20 years and umming and ahhing for about the last 5 i finally decided last year i was going to get it done. I had the lasek treatment as i didnt need to get back to work after 24 hours, but after a couple of days they were fine. Its amazing after being 'blind' to get up off the bed and be able to see, albeit a bit haloish. what i will say is, if you get it done, use the drops and eye shields as and when you're supposed to, it makes a hell of a difference to your healing, i know someone who didnt because she thought she knew better and then got an infection. i followed all the rules (yes i knkow, before you guys say it, i dont usually) and mine healed perfectly. With mine if my distance sight starts to fade again they will retreat my eyes free of charge, though i probably will end up needing reading glasses eventually, at the minute i just set my kindle text to a bit larger so my eyes dont have to work quite so hard at re focusing when i stop reading. xx
lol yeah i wish!! i might have had that figure 15 years ago but not any more lol, though that tattoo looks to be in a rather nice place........ xxxx
I had laser surgery about 14 years ago with Ultralase in Chester - best money I've ever spent. My sight started to fade a bit last year (age 35) so I went back to the place that did it first time and they said 'no probs we'll do it again for free. Had it again and haven't looked back (so to speak) highly recommended procedure and a highly recommended company
my sister has had it done about £800 after over 20 years wearing glasses amazing! had it done by 1 of the high st names, vision express, specsavers cant remember who,goo for it you wont regret it.
hi mr magoo! optical express got my 1.6k two years ago, i would not recomend there aftercare service though. its not good . you are warned about halos for night vision, car lights are just halos( not defined) its a strange feeling going blind when they slide the lens out to allow them to laser the eye, and the smell of burning eye is not a nice experience. your probably worried now eh, lol. would i recomend it? yes i would. im near enough your age and they do warn you that the eyes may regress, and if its within 2 or so years they do it for free over that and they charge a percentage. glasses and helmets dont go! been there done that. get it done bud. i dont regret it. hth
Thank you all for your comments, looks like a no brainer from the results you guys and girls have had. Now if only i could find my glasses I would do a bit more research into it
