So yesterday after a 70mile bimble and stopping at a cafe in Bude, my bike decides it want to piss itself . So looks like I need to replace the radiator after finding a hole near the downpipes. Not bad after 14yrs. So my question is, will a 2004/5 rad fit on a 2006 model? Any places you guys know that sell them. I'm not going OEM and paying nearly £800. I've found a few on eBay, but they come from china. Any suggestions.
is it possible to get the existing radiator repaired? I would suggest joining a few owners groups on Facebook and a few of the track day selling groups and posting wanted adverts there. Some people buy back their own written of bikes to split for parts etc. You could also speak to a few places who do performance upgrades like ECU flashing if they know of anything/one selling any. I feel your pain. I had a punctured radiator on my MT10 and I almost cried when I found out the price of a new one from Yamaha. The guys at the workshop were really good though and helped me source a replacement. eBay was the first bet but all of the ones we could find were damaged. Eventually, they called up one of the tuners they work with who specialise in Yamaha and by chance he had just bought a written off MT10 (rad was fine) and sold me the rad for a third of the price of a new one. Good luck with your search.
I replaced the radiator on my RR6 recently. Bought it from M&P, think it was about £140 and arrived within a few days. Had to adjust a few of the brackets to get it to fit but nothing major, (I'm a hopeless mechanic so if I can sort it anyone can). Been on the bike a few weeks now and appears to be doing the job, certainly runs a lot cooler. I did just go on their website so I could send you a link. For some reason the radiator listing isn't appearing now for RR4-7 models although they do have other years showing. Might be worth giving them a bell, see if it's just an oversight on the webpage.
I looked in to this while looking for a rad for my KTM. OEM was about 350 and the price to repair/rebuild was pretty much the same so for me it was OEM. Compared to 800 though it's a bargain. Don't know where you're based but google will throw up loads of companies that will rebuild it for you if you post it to them. Having said that, a couple of years ago I put a chinese rad on a blackbird and it fitted and worked perfectly. The supplier isn't on ebay any more though so what you'll get if you go down that route is anyone's guess.
I don't know who sells or repairs them, but I do know that if it's a road bike then the 4/5 rad is different to the 5/6 because of the front fairing shape.
https://www.aaronradiator.co.uk/motorcycle/ did mine for the previous owner. Looks as good as new tbh.
I believe the RR4/RR5 is different than RR6/RR7 - primarily as i got a second hand RR5 fan and wouldn't fit the RR7 mounting holes!. I replaced my rad with one off of ebay, was about £90 delivered in the end. Not a perfect oem fit, but behind the fairing it doesn't notice. One thing to watch i the angle of the top hose outlet on the rad - mine wasn't quite the right angle so needed a bit or persuasion. Look at the pics closely and choose one that looks as close to the one you already have - if it turns up not looking like that then you can send it back.
Yes, I think the RR6/7 rad is taller than the RR4/5. Basically the smaller RR4/5 rad will fit both bikes, but the larger RR6/7 rad will only fit the RR4/5 if you modify the front fairing or if it's got a race fairing where there are no infills. I'm starting to sound like a bloody know it all though as figured out just about everything I need to know to keep these bikes going having had both at the same time. Shame I'm 15 years behind the current models though as I now need to learn about my 2014 model
There's a few places around Plymouth where I'm from that might be able.to repair it. So I took it off this afternoon to investigate and it's just a clean slice. At the moment, M&P only seem to have 04/05 and 08/11, sods law mines not in stock. I've had a look on eBay and the Chinese ones are about £180.
