Booked this last November, so wasn't going to miss it......Covid or no Covid. Getting the ferry from Rosslare (Ireland) to Bilbao. Will be in Spain 4pm Thur & have 7 nights there. Forecast not the best, but I'll make the most of it. Going on my own.....no problem there. Did a 2 week Euro trip solo last yeay & loved it. Will post a few pics on my return & will try and give daily updates while I'm away. R.M
Love it there, been all over Europe, but keep going back there always finding a new road route. Was supposed to go in July but obviously cancelled. Enjoy your Trip.
Yeah.....after 28.5hrs on the boat got into Bilbao 4.45pm Spanish time. Bloody hot.30c. Faffed about looking for petrol. Decking sat nav messed me about. Had 300km ....190 mile spin to my hotel so did motorway for bout 90miles, then onto the N621. Words can't explain this road. I've seen loads of YouTube vids, but until u ride it, u won't understand. Perfect surfaces, bend after bend after bend. 2nd gear, 3rd gear, 2nd gear. Kept making mistake of braking mid bend whick makes the bike sit up. When stuck behind traffic, wait for clear spot then squirt the throttle and away u go, then brake hard for next bend. QS is a blast on these roads. The surroundings are out of this world, but no time to look as u have to concentrate on road. That's day 1 over. Few cold beers now before bed
I love the Picos, done them a couple of times now - you're making me hanker after a bike trip! When we were there last year the N 625 (west side of the picos was closed for a section, but there was a diversion along some tiny mountain roads through Sellano and Viego which was okay. Hope you get some sunshine!
Woke to the sound of rain. Thought the day was going to be a washout. Had my brekkie and saw the clouds were breaking do got geared up and on the road by 10am. Took it easy for a while to give the bike and tyres a chance to warm up. Headed out on the N621 to Potes over the pass. Rain had stopped and roads were reasonably dry. Really got into the groove today and rode much better than yesterday. Avoided that braking mid corner issue I was having yesterday and just let the bike fall into the bends. I then headed to Cains, a beautiful little village set amidst the mountains and had lunch there. Was very tempted to have 1 cold beer, but settled for a coke. Was out for 7 hrs and covered 400km (250mls). Really impressed with the Michelin Power 5's I fitted before trip. Super grip in dry and wet. I'm sure I'm not anywhere near pushing them to the limit. U certainly won't have any chicken strips after a day here Went on a mission to find a shop that sells beer. Using my sat nav brought me to either non existent shops or shops that close at 2pm. Found one 25km from digs. Got myself some mahou for 59c for 330ml instead of paying €3 in hotel bar....I'm a tight bastard. I hate been taken for a mug. So a great day had. Tired now. Here's a few pics.
Looks amazing, I take my hat off to you for going ahead with your trip. Looking forward to seeing more photos. I'm now hankering for a bike trip, not been on one for a few years now, maybe nex year???
Quiet day today. Headed out around 10am to visit a cable car park and the rain started. It was light enough but didn't make the twisties any fun. I didn't go on the cable car as the views would have been spoiled by the low clouds and most. Filled up at a repsol garage so had to take a pic
Looks amazing RM, there is going to be lots of us wishing that we could of got away this year but for obvious reasons trips were cancelled, but good luck to you matey getting away enjoy the rest of the trip and keeps those pictures coming. Looks as though you enjoy the odd beer
Did 400km today round trip today in glorious weather, bar the last hour when it pissed down. Stuck to the N625 which passes through a gorge with mountains on both sides. Brilliant roads. Lost the front for a split second due do small stones rolling off cliffs. Woke me up for sure.
N625 road to Cangas de Onis, epic road. Have you tried going past the petrol station at Riano, head toward Cisternia still on the N621, when you get to Cisternia head toward the Town Centre, take a left on the CL626 toward Guardo take a left onto P215 toward Veilila, then take a right onto the P210, you will not be disappointed att he end of this road turn right and head back toward Potes.
Spent today looking for a shop to fit brake pads. 9hrs later and 400km no joy. Language barrier didn't help. Will have to take it easy tomorrow as I head back on Thursday. Weather was spot on today. Few pics from yesterday.
