Anyone else had their insurance go up at renewal recently? I paid £128 last year now the renewal has come through at nearly double at £238. Went straight onto CompareTheMarket and still the cheapest comes in at £150 and not with any big names - MCE comes in at £167. So a year older and an extra years NCD but nothing else changed and it's gone up. Not impressed. I'm currently with Bennetts and will be phoning them to ask why is it nearly double
This exactly. Mine in 2018-2019 was £128 FC, after my hit my renewal was £1000 (protected no claims) went with bikesure in the end (used them before and the only company to call me back!) and got it for £323ish, looking forward to this year
Call me naive, but with hardly anyone driving anywhere, and less people banging into each other in the last year, and they have admitted claims are down, so premiums should follow in the same direction.
My renewal with Bikesure went up at last renewal, only by about £30-£40 but still up. I called Bemoto and they couldnt match the renewal so went ahead with Bikesure. No rhyme or reason for it. I tried to get another years NCB added to the policy but couldn't, they said it wouldve made no difference anyway as after you accumulate 6 years worth, you've reached the limit for discount (apparently). I'm going to go with less people on the road, more vehicles being SORN due to WFH etc. Less income for insurance companies ergo all renewals will go up to make up the deficit. Cynical? Me? Nooooooo
Never ever have I ever.... just taken the renewal quote offered. Nearly always need to shop around and sometimes the company offering my renewal will price match. Applies to pretty much all my insurance products for bike, car, truck, house and cat(!). Just checked my quote, staying with MCE, and mine has gone down from around £550 last year to around £380 this year (same annual mileage of up to 7999, 6 years no claims, SD&P & commuting). I guess when you're starting from £128 the only way it can go is up.
I think this is my first time with Bennett’s, £238 including RAC 5star euro cover. Base figure was £ 180. Bargain, I thought. But when you think about it, 6% of that is insurance premium tax, at least £40 is broker fee, possibly even more. Not a lot actually goes to the underwriter.
My renewal came through being of January and it had gone up to £496, up by around £100 on last year with Bennetts. Always use mcn compare and have never stayed with the same company. Almost halved it at £257 with One Call Insurance! However......they're anything but 'One Call' away! I've tried to contact them but can't, I have a new bike on the horizon so want to ammend the policy by changing the vehicle details and it has to be done online, via chat!!! The person I spoke to online asked me if the bike was left or right hand drive?? Anyway this is proving difficult, I've never cancelled insurance before but as I'm still in the cooling off period , is this still possible? I've only paid a deposit of about 30 quid! I've had another quote for the new bike with ,.......funnily enough Bennets!!
Well that's about as funny as the message I was sent by the AA Recovery people before they came to collect my bike. "Due to covid19 we ask you to observe social distancing of 2M, please wind all the windows down on your vehicle, whilst placing yourself in a safe location".. I spent ages looking for the window winder on my bike..
I always think of them as right hand drive, as that's where the drive (throttle) is Gears on the other foot are a different matter. The BSA Sportsman from 1966 has 1 up and 3 down on the gearbox, and the lever is on the right hand (foot) side.. really confusing to start with. (Although getting it started is another matter entirely).
Mine's now with a subsidiary of Aviva. The previous one wanted to go from £300 ish with the 2011 Blade to over £800 when I swapped it for the 2018 last summer. Can't remember that firm but I got a biker guy from A1 Insurance services to get me a better deal and finally settled for £400 - (as the power was greater on the new bike). Agree that the insurance companies are total shites when it comes to renewals. House insurance - get a stupid renewal every year, phone up and they halve it "as I'm a valued customer." Just quote the lower price first time you cretins.
Crazy how they're able to get away with it, almost modern day theft in my opinion. Be interesting to see what happens over the next year or so as they start to give up leases on big buildings as staff work from home etc. I wonder if the savings will get passed onto the punter. Credit where it's due though, I only put 3 years NCB in on my new insurance purchase, when providing the NCB proof I realised I in fact have 4 years NCB. They've refunded me £80 without quibbling. I'm with principal Insurance. None of the big contenders would touch me on a blade even though I've been riding 10 years.
2nd year with bikesure ..renewal came and had a 10% drop in price from previous year..nice. .. £258....2 bikes 14 blade + cbr 600 f sport, 9 year ncb protected ,FC,..but i am 51
It's a bit of a post code lottery too isn't it? Couple of streets away from me is a guy who I know pays as much as me for a 600 and we're similar in ages and risk. But he's on a council estate with a different code to mine and we're all individual older houses. Bit like the way they assess house insurance on how many thefts are in your code even if you have a couple of Rottweillers and an electric fence.
Got 2 bikes with RH, fully comp, albeit classic policy’s, guaranteed values, salvage retention rights, UK/Euro breakdown, legal assistance, £50 excess and no admin change charges for the princely sum of £125, that’s a fair price I feel.
I think admiral were even giving refunds to car insurance customers last year!! I agree risks are much lower now thanks to corona but was there not a new rule stopping insurers quote higher renewals compared to quotes for new customers?
Just done the car £396 last year £415 this year I even said to them your a rip off because everyone has done less miles and less cars to hit but still the W want more
Thanks for all the replies. I will obviously be shopping around but will need other comparison sites as comparethemarket are all expensive compared to last year. Details are the same etc and only insured for 1000 miles a year it's ridiculous it gone up. The only thing I can think of is increased bike thefts in the local area which maybe a year ago there was a load all of a sudden reported on the local facebook groups. I've not looked since I posted so will do another check tomorrow as that's another anomaly seems you can get different prices each week. Got it down to £131 on gocompare with Devitt but no breakdown cover - yes I even had that in last years £128
