I wonder if anyone can assist. I own a 1999 CBR RR Blade with carbs. I have recently removed the tank to change plugs, filter etc. Upon reassembly the bike will turn over but won't start. I have eliminated ignition system as the problem and I am certain that it's fuel. The tank has a vacuum petrol cock and I have replaced the rubber diaphram and other parts as a precaution. The bike still won't start and when I turn on the tap, petrol does not come out. I have connected the tubes to the correct part of the petrol cock. Is there something really obvious that I am not doing i.e air locks or something similar, as this is the first time this has happened. Any advice would be appreciated.

If you have the Petrol tank off the bike turn the fuel tap on and suck the vacuum pipe , fuel should flow , if it does check you have connected the pipe to the vacuum source on the carbs to produce that vacuum to the petcock

Is it possible you have the breather and vacuum pipes the wrong way round ?

Very easy to crush the vacuum pipe on reseating the tank or you’ve got the kill switch operated ........

I am somewhat embarrassed to admit that going through the advice and after a process of elimination not only did I put the petrol cock on the wrong way, but I misidentified the vacuum pipe and failed to connect it correctly. But many thanks, it's working now. And I am going back to Mechanics school in disgrace :)

No disgrace, I'm sure most of us have done it at some stage (whether we admit to it or not!), excitement of getting the bike back together and back out riding again maybe! Enjoy the fun of it and thought of saving all that money over garage costs!! (my sister was quoted £100 by Audi to fix her number plate bulb, scandalous!!! I did it for £1.50 - she was a happy bunny!)
