Looking at upgrading my intercom as mine is about 15years old. Looking between the Sena 10s and freecom 2 . Price aside I would if one is better than the other and why? Read a few threads saying the sena isn't classed as waterproof. Not sure how they can sell it if it's not. Any of you guys use either of these? Mixed reviews on both units.
Why would an intercom have to be certified as waterproof before being allowed to be sold? That is correct about the Sena’s, they’re not waterproof. Water resistant yes.
Son and I have the Packtalk bold. They work reasonably well. Definitely torrential rain proof. No one intercom is brilliant though.
In my experience with Sena, they’ll repair/replace under warranty even if it’s water damaged. my 20S was replaced by the 20S Evo after rain had corroded the contacts on the docking mount. Same thing happened to the 20S Evo after a few months of light use - however, it was out of warranty at that point so got told to do one by Sena. i would not buy Sena again for that reason. UK weather is far too wet. Don’t get me wrong, the Sena had been in some pretty bad downpours, but it was no way near the amount my Interphone went through and my Interphone is still going strong - but that is certified waterproof though. The 10S is pretty old tech by current standards as well
The buttons are much more simpler than the Sena’s jog dial. With the jog dial you have to remember the combination of pushing the outer jog dial (some times the inner button as well) and the turning the outer jog dial in a specific direction. The Interphone is just buttons, much more simpler to use and KISS (keep it simple stupid) You’ve probably looked at the rider to pillion Interphone which indeed only have a 10-100 metre range. Downside to that is that it’s single Bluetooth chip so can only do one thing at a time. Eg, you can’t listen to music and have w conversation at the same time. Whereas with the Sena you can, it will automatically lower the music down whilst you’re talking, then when you’ve finished, will then the volume back up.
Those are just the names of the models (like Sena’s 10S, 20S, 30K. Or cardo’s Packtalk, Freecom etc) they’re not designed specifically for sports or touring bikes etc. Best thing to do is just research the individual models. The tour was there top of the line model which has now been replaced by the Avant.
I have the "tour" no real issue with it works well within the intercom parameter, whether it just with a pillion or a group of 4, but with a group of 4 you have a leader 1 which pairs to no.2 then to no.3 and no.4 then 2 automatically pairs to 3 and 4, then 3 pairs to 4, so they are all paired in sequence. Issue is you set off in order of 1,2,3 and 4 then say at some point 2 takes the lead he will lose 1 but still be with 3 and 4, while 1 will lose all, until 1 take the lead position again, the same for the rest anyone who doesn't keep in the right 1234 order they will disrupt the conference style talk. This is what happened with us in Spain. Paid £175 for the pair at nec so you get what you pay for.
I have been researching and the Cardo Packtalk gets very good reviews. Does anyone use comm units in a Shoei X Sprit 3 helmet? I realise its a sports helmet and not really designed to have speakers but I'd like to add comms for phone connectivity. Do the speakers fit or are they too thick?
I've got the Interphone Active, & it's very average. The buttons are difficult to use with winter gloves on. The FM radio isn't great - Radio Essex is difficult to get in Essex & Radio 2 drops in & out in central London. The sound isn't loud enough when using ear plugs. The battery life was great to start with, but has tailed off significantly over time & use. It does pair with my mobile easily & is really useful for sat nav. Instructions are very basic & I haven't a clue how to call someone. When receiving calls (if I can find the right button in time), the caller says there's too much wind noise. Speaker position makes a massive difference to sound & are quite bulky in my X-Lite X803. The Tour version (linked above) looks better & has better reviews, but I'm not so sure about the position of the connector in the bottom.
Easy way of getting any headset to talk to each other is what me and my friend do. Have a discord group and just connect your phone to your headset. Then it doesn’t matter. I was testing it along the Isle of Wight’s mili road (soon for the road race) and my friend who was at home about 8 miles away and it was clear as day. Sena & Cardo
