Hi all, had a few questions about my RR7 so though it would be good to put up into build thread. Bike is a 2007 Fireblade with ~42k on the clock. Bought from a friend as pretty much stock road bike with the intention of converting to a dedicated track bike. Day I bought it Took it to Brands Hatch for a shake down and was running very hot, with poor front brake performance. Rad was shot so replaced for new Rebuilt the front callipers but still poor bite from lever so replaced with Accossato lever and master cylinder which is brilliant Then took it to Cadwell for a session and front fork was weeping so new seals done.
Over last winter decided to paint and new decals. Couldn't find a decent set of track fairings so decided to use original. Felt criminal to butcher original fairings but really pleased with the outcome. Bike stripped Custom decals arrived Painting the wheel Fairings filled and painted Nardo grey Decals going on Once put back together took it to Donnington for a shake down. and then to Snetterton (favourite track) Since fitted Healtech quickshifter and gone up 2 teeth on the rear sprocket. The Healtech quickshifter was a pain to fit as its very tight down there but such a great mod for the track. Highly recommend. Yet to ride on the new gearing so excited to see how it gets on. Looking for harder acceleration, not too concerned about loosing top end (yet).
Yep very nice, I really like how you can change gear with a qs with the bike cranked over without upsetting them.
Fuck me, mine looks totally shit in comparison ;( Same number though I wish I could ride mine like you can ride yours. I've fitted the healtech quickshifter on mine but haven't been able to use it yet. I dropped one tooth on the front and went up 2 at the back but again, haven't used it on track like that yet. Fitted a slipper clutch made a huge difference to the bike. I chucked on some cheap chinese unpainted fairings on mine. Yours looks much better. Great bikes.
Thanks for the comments all. Do love this era Blade, simple bikes and does everything well. Bought it to track rather than my BMW S1000rr which I will keep for road riding. Could never relax on track with it as back of my mind was $$$$ if I stacked it. Track time on the Blade knowing it doesn't stand me at much (comparatively) means my style has relaxed so much and show how much more capable the bike + tyres really are. Got a few more UK trackdays this year then fingers crossed for next year to explore some Euro tracks with it. Been eyeing up Sublime Wraps to do a custom wrap for it but we will see.
Never been happy with the stock brake performance on track and after removing discs I found the wrong discs were fitted and the offset was causing awful drag on the pads. Decided to invest in new Brembo M4's and EBC discs. Decided to try the Metzeler track day slick too once my Supercorsa's are toast
Got to test out the new brake setup this weekend out at Mallory Park. Brakes are fantastic and pack a punch compared to stock. Really pleased and inspires confidence. Not the biggest fan of Mallory as a circuit, on the short side and didn't compliment the new short gearing very well much prefer the longer circuits like Snetterton which ill be back at in a couple of weeks.
Not much been going on with the bike recently. 6 track days this summer and 4 of them it rained. Think ill be heading to Europe next year! Will start the tear down and Autumn/Winter jobs soon ready for next year. Planned jobs so far; Service Spark plugs PAIR valve removal New gaskets for engine casings (weeping) Healtech shift light Re-seal exhaust link pipe Started to collect a few bits Decided to repaint the rear wheel as wasn't happy with it and its come out much better. Replaced the rear disc while it was off
The bike look super , well done . I Have done 4 track days at Snetterton this year , all dry , one more Oct 11th , haha I know what you are thinking
Bit of an update, made some progress this week. Bikes stripped down again Fitted the Healtech shift light pro. Will see how I get on with the placement but its very bright so think it will be fine. Took power and earth from gear indicator and tapped the taco wire from the speedo for revs. Nerve wrecking cutting up OEM loom! Decided to tackle spark plugs and PAIR valve removal. As it was; PAIR valve blanks to go in Fitted; Then removed old plugs and replaced with new. Here are the plugs I took out - how do they look? No idea when they were last done Will finish putting everything back this week and fingers crossed it fires up!
It is only 30 mins away but yes great fun going around there , coming out of the bends into the straights and being able to give it everything the bike has , every single bit ha ha . I do laugh when people have a new M1000RR just what is the point if you don’t go on a track .
Out of interest, given the RR7 has a programmable shift light, what do you get by adding an aftermarket one?
