I bought my zx9r a few years ago to save using my mille in crap weather, ended up spending a load on it, they’re a seriously under rated road bike, coming back from Scotland last year I came off so I rebuilt it over the lockdown, I’d fitted dymag up7x’s and Pfm brakes before the accident and bought it with the Ohlins shock fitted.
I had to fit a new frame as it got a hairline crack so while it was bare I stripped the frame and scotchbrited it, Mark toon at rcd built me a new swingarm with his quick release kit fitted and I’ve had a ktech kit fitted in the forks and shock serviced, the brakes are 6 pot pfm’s with 330mm iron disc’s, I found ti akrapovic headers and racefit made a carbon long can system for it, bsd refurbished the carbs and fitted a cordona pq8 qs which works lovely, I’ve got them fitted on my Mille and k7 as well.
Thanks, I really do like these bikes, as said they’re seriously under rated, might not of been great track bikes but as a road bike are fantastic and you can get a curry and chips under the seat.
Lovely bike, appreciate the pics man. Always wanted to try a 750 I4. One thing stands out on those calipers though; the banjo is at the bottom?!? Seems a very odd design. Where is the bleed nipple located?
So you like the quick shifter? I have a cordona fitted to the blade but was a bit gutted when I found out it does pop all the time
Thanks for the pic mate! Makes much more sense now. Seriously want a set of those calipers in my life. Decided against the iron discs based on my (long) convo with the PFM guy (forget his name) but have an SS set waiting to fit back home. Also just realized I had in my head this was a 750 and not a 900 for some reason...
I have 4 cordona pq8’s on various bikes, my zx9 is the only carved bike I have with one on, it hardly ever bangs on this but bsd did rebuild the carbs and set it all up on the dyno so maybe there’s not much un burnt fuel getting in the exhaust.
I bought some ultimate addons heated grips and healtech thunder box to connect any after market parts to the 9, the grips I think look very tidy as there’s no extra control box, just a small button that controls the five settings, the thunder box monitors battery voltage so when the bikes not running it turns everything off and won’t power it back up until the bikes finished cranking and settled down.
I’ve got to finish shortening the wires as I connected everything to test them but they work very well and I think look nice and tidy, you can run a switched live on the thunder box as well.
Great mods on the ZX9.. and you're right, they are totally under-rated, comfy, reliable, cheap, fast handle great with a good tank range. Perfect for the road.
Just looking at your bikes and I've ordered a set of the dymags for my cbr . Can't wait to get um fitted
gone for the gold ones bud, bike is black , always like the black and gold combo. im going to do a thread on it once its back ,ive be busy on it
