Hi guys I've recently fitted a new yoshimura system to the blade (08 plate) while running it up could smell burning plastic, looking at the fan and it's very close to the exhaust and starting to melt. The fan kicked in and is now hitting the exhaust where its melted sounds bloody awful. Any idea what could have gone wrong??
No experience of this so just thinking out loud. Apologies if this sounds patronising, that’s not how it’s meant, but sometimes you can’t see the wood for the trees. Firstly - Are you sure it’s the correct Yoshi system for your bike? Confirm that the radiator has gone back in the correct spot (as in not too far back/up/down) and at the correct angle? Are you able to compare the header profile of the original and new system and if so are they the same? Are the headers seated fully in the exhaust ports? Are they at the correct angle (as in not being push forward by the rest of the system)? Does the rest of the system pick up correctly on the other mounts? Hope this helps in your diagnosis of the issue.
right then guys did a bit of digging and found out this is a common problem after fitting a full system as the one pipe comes out further than the original, i spaced out the lower rad bracket and trimmed the fan with a dremmel and all seems good again. fan cuts in and running normal temp again with no melting.
must admit there were quite a few posts on why bother with a full system when the originals are good enough ect ect . but putting the originals back on was not an option.
Will be a nightmare in situ if you use wrap, a few companies make sleeves that you clip around if you want to do it in situ.
seems a good idea, its only number two exhaust pipe that caused the problem, might be worth just doing that one.
