Not the ones inside the top on the engine The valve in the exhaust. Is it there only to reduce noise or does it also improve back pressure and torque like the old Yam EXUP system? Trying to work out if it is worth reinstalling to my blade. I'm using the standard exhaust system but after purchase I've realised there are no cables or servo motor. Thanks.
You don't need the cables, if you're running the standard exhaust with cables removed, the flap within the exhaust will remain open and make it sound a bit more meaty! If you're planning on reinstalling the cables, it's not too difficult but just remember there are two separate ones unlike previous models!
when closed, it will affect the back pressure. whether there is any noticeable impact on the torque depends on the bike set up and the rider. I personnaly did not like the extra noise at lower RPM and felt the bike slow speed pick up was slower (or my mind playing tricks!)
I suspect you are right mate, I've no knowledge of the Blades as this is my first but every single other bike I've had, with the valve removed, there was lost torque, fluffy or hunting tick over, and the worst (An FZR EXUP), a complete cut in power at 3000 rim I'm really not fussed about a noisy exhaust, I'd much prefer a smooth running package. If I were to fit a loud pipe later the only way for me is to have it remapped in and that's dollar for no real gain!
And do you lose torque without the exhaust valve? The answer is yes you do. And it runs sooo much nicer now, lovely idle, and pulls like a train from low revs. And the best bit, the exhaust note is lovely, yeah it's not loud unless you are really getting a wriggle on but even at low rpm it sounds decent. So, In my opinion, if you are serious about being quick rather than just making lots of noise, you need the exhaust valve fitted and working. Maybe a remap could get close if it is removed, even better would be a remap with the exhaust valve fitted. I understand why retro fit exhaust manufacturers want us to eliminate the valve, because it keeps their costs down whilst they charge big money, and then have the cheek to tell us "no remap needed", yeah it runs, but like a bag o sh!te until you are at full chat!
I put mine back to standard last summer and agree with your comments. With the valve out it hunted at low revs better than Davy Crockett and especially decelerating. I just got fed up with it but since then have enjoyed the ride so much more. Each to his own.
I wasn't happy with mine at low revs with the standard can. I think it feels better with a new end can and a remap to suit. I could be just trying to convince myself that I haven't wasted my money though.
Yes the remap will definitely have got you back to something smooth, and possibly a little gain up top. Your money isn't wasted, you have the exhaust of your choice remapped to suit your machine. Each to their own For me I wanted a standard looking and sounding bike with no running issues and that's what I have now.
I have a Racefit not remapped and I run mainly in the low rev range it is a shame you seem to loose so much low down. But I have not thought of refitting std. I just like the look and noise, I do have a homemade baffle in
The baffle will help scavenging a bit. If you were able to refit standard parts and feel the difference you'd be booked for a remap in an instant. It really is a completely different machine now I've put it back to standard. If I were to fit an exhaust can later (I wont) I'd be straight to the nearest rolling road asap
The homemade baffle gives a bit of back pressure and I have made a low tech fuelling module, It does not hunt anymore and is not bad, I have to say I have thought of trying the std pipe just to see what I have been missing
I removed the cat and did some baffle alterations on my RR7 but left the exaust flap alone for that bottom end power ,,,,,, motogp teams certainly know something about power
I would like to modify my Racefit to put in the xup valve, At the moment the bike is under wraps till April, But after seeing that pic it might just spur me on to do some work,
