Bought a magnetic set of allen keys so I would not drop the bolt in the exhaust can again, when removing the end can baffle, except the things are not magnetic. Anyway the bolt and washer have to be put on on the inside, through small hole in can and yes....rattle , clatter, bolt falls in exhaust again, in the can itself not down the pipe ..So exhaust off to fish it out.. Anyone any ideas on how to make it easier to fit the baffle without dropping the screw in . Its a real crap design... I could use a longer bolt and have it stick out the can, but means no washer and it would not doubt vibrate out at some stage and lose the baffle.. Think I'll just keep baffle in.
That must be pain gotta say that's why I love the large circlip on my arrow, its to big to fall into the exhaust, maybe they should all be made this way
Maybe if I stuck a small tube over the bolt,,. Removing bolt with a Allen key down the tube..... Still probably lose the washer.. If this was not an issue I could take the baffle off and put it back in.. in 3o seconds...
can you put a rag on a string down the baffle then pull it out after, I have not seen the design but many times I fill engine holes with rags, they tend to suck anything dropped in
That seems an excellent plan..I could stuff enough rag in to block the gap.. maybe bit of string on the rag just in case.. just needs enough to stop a screw falling in.. and some tweezers should the worst happen to fish it out. Thanks I'll fine tune the idea...
Drag the allen key a few times over a magnet and it'll become magnetic (if it's steel). The rag sounds like a good plan. Get yourself a flexible magnetic pick up tool from ebay to fish the bolt out next time.
Yep.. I think the original bolt is not metal..well magnetic -able.. ..... and sure there is no room for a flexible magnet jobby.. I think the ragg idea will be the easiest way..
When I did this with my akrapovic. I put some tape on end of a long screwdriver first time and 2nd time blu tack on end of s rew driver. Its a right pain in the arse lol
A magnetic extending pick up tool os what you need. The number of times it saved my day following my ususal clumsiness of dropping things where they shouldn't go
Best way to get it out is to stand your Mrs behind the bike holding up a strong bag for life then pin the bike at a steady 13,500rpm and let her do the rest.
At 13k you can try hitting the kill switch for a split second and maybe the backfire might just send it out
Sorry to bang on about this but I was going to leave the baffle in but was shocked at how strangled the too end was. Struggling to rev out over 10,000 so it's going to have to stay out. That means the standard can is going on for trackdays which is a ball- ache.. On a positive note, I have found a dead easy method to remove the bolt without losing it in the exhaust case .. I loosen the bolt enough to remove the baffle but not drop the screw and washer.. then I push a thin seal pick against the base of the screw to guide it out. Worked a treat..with abit of ragged. jammed in to help stop droppage.. Ps...I may drill the base of the baffle tube out as it's useless as it is..
