Hi guys, I have a 2008 fireblade which has a fault at the moment. It’s only happened since I had a little low side crash and have changed the road fairings to track fairings. Basically the full beam indicator on the dash (blue light to say full beams are on) comes on when it fancy’s and when that light is illuminated the fuel pump won’t prime. If I give the bike a shake the light will come off the dash and the fuel pump will prime and bike starts fine. I can ride it for a while but the full beam light flickers and sometimes the bike will die and I’ll have to shake it about for a while and it will start again. Currently it has no lights plugged in at all, I’ve checked relays, kill switch and fuses. Is there anything obvious I could try before I check all wiring?? I have also bypassed the tilt sensor so it’s not that. Any help much appreciated!

Hi and welcome to the forum. If you turn the high beam on (when its not got the fault) does it kill the pump?

Hi mate thanks for the reply, if I turn the high beam on without it playing about it doesn’t kill the pump.

So its not a fault on the lighting circuit itself but a short that’s throwing the high beam up as a consequence. Take the fairings off and look for any harness damage/distortion (like a flat spot or crease mark) where any wiring could have been crushed when the bike went down. Then look to peel back the covering and investigate for anything shorting. Logically its got to be somewhere on the harness that is flexing with the steering or suspension movement. Don’t forget to check any connectors for crush damage. Moisture is the other killer getting in to anything that’s been damaged or stretched leaving exposed contact risk of a short.

Thanks for the advice mate. I think that’s all I can do. I was hoping it might of been a common issue and someone might of been able to pinpoint the fault but you’re right I will have to trace wiring and see if I can find any issues. I’ll let you know how I get on

Hi guys, sorry it’s taken a while but I got chance to have a look at the bike today. Managed to get it running with all fairings off and wiggled wires until the bike cut out so then I knew I was in the right area.

Under the clutch side of the middle fairing there is a few wires routed over the radiator and I kept wiggling them and the full beam light was flickering as it has been until I got to a plug and then I wiggled the plug and figured it was that.

It wasn’t quite connected properly and it was a bit corroded to so I cleaned it all up clipped it together and wiggled it about with the bike all running and no issues at all now . Luckily it was a simple fix in the end . Thanks guys!

That is a common area for corrosion, I disconnected the plug, gave it a good clean with electrical cleaner and then used insulation tape around the connector to stop water getting in again.

I had the same issue on my old 2011......

Take the LHS fairing off and disconnect the loom, (both plugs) clean with switch cleaner....

    Problem solved :)

    Hope this helps?
