Looking at getting a new lid and from what I've looked at and read up on so far, the range topping RS ultra carbon from X Lite is really good value for money for between £400-£500. Some tip over £500 depending on what websites you're looking and what paint job you go for.

You even get a Dark visor included and that would cost £60-£80 to add in one of them for other helmet brands.

So my question is........does anyone have one and how good is it...... and how does it compare in 'size' to a Shoei X Spirit 3 which I'm and XL in.

    Thanks

I have one, best helmet I've ever had. Very light , quiet an comfortable.Great quality. Much better than the Arai helmets I've owned.

Is fit true to sizing ? For example I'm normally XL in most brands but I had to size up in an HJC Rpha 11, but normal XL for Rpha 10 plus. Just seemed narrow in the opening and generally tighter.

Hi Paul. I've got an X Spirit 2 and an NXR, both in medium and recently tried on the the helmet you are looking at, also in a medium, so would say it's true to size. Found it very comfortable and am sorely tempted. Hope that helps.

Thanks @Autopilot, that's really helpful. Ideally I need to try one on but I rarely do. Last few helmets I've bought have been bought on line but you get the odd brand that you need to size up in!

Fantastic helmet Paulo I've had the carbon 803 for a couple of years now and certainly the lightest and most comfortable helmet worn, the top vents and chin vents work extremely well especially in the hot weather and have been a real advantage, previous helmets were HJCs that were OK but certainly not as good as the Xlite. Sizing seems similar but I'm a Med, the X lite was a little snug on cheeks at first but eventually became very comfortable.
Only thing I don't like and I have posted this before is the green interior lining.
If you do get one I don't think you will be disappointed.

Is yours the RS version @bradt?? Some people on the Ducati forum have been saying it fits like an Arai and Quite stubby around the chin/mouth piece. But thats the non RS version.

The RS version has an elongated mouth/chin section apparently and in the above picture its nothing like an Arai and is definitely not stubby looking!!

I've a 2 of the standard 802 Ultra Carbons and they did change the chin on the 803. I felt it was too close and went for the 903 in the end, it was more comfortable on the SDR too due to the change in riding position. Not tried the RS version though.

I'd always bought Arai and now I have no real reason to go back. I find they fit better around the back lower part of my head than the Arai's used to as well.

I currently have the 903 carbon and HJC RPHA 11 as a spare and the X-lite's always the preferred lid.

Just a thought, they are a bit of a pain if you use a bluetooth headset for music or satnav. Nolan wants you to buy their own Ncom stuff which is stupidly priced and the recesses made for the headphones are slightly smaller than the usual Sena and Cardo's.

It's sort of workable but you have to fiddle with the speakers to stop them digging in, especially with earplugs.

out of my 3 lids the X-lite is definitely my daily and most often used, I keep the Pista for super hot weather as it's like having a colander on your head! the X Spirit 3 is by far the best quality, quieter than the rest, and probably the most comfortable. But let down by the weight after using the other 2. It's really noticeable.

In a nutshell the X-Lite is a clear winner in my opinion, especially at the price point. For reference my 3 are all the same size (s) and fit perfectly.....

I note what you say about the weight but I wouldn’t swap my X Spirit simply because of the comfort and lack of wind noise which keeps me able to ride for longer periods than other makes I’ve had. Plus I must have a Shoei head as I hate the fit of Arais I’ve tried.

So I bought one!!! Ended up with the one pictured at the start of the thread. Was going to go for the Moto gp replica which is a nice design, then I toyed with the Alex Rins replica but didn't like the massive 42 in the back. I tried one on at Ducati Manchester and decided I had to size up to XXL.

I got it from XL Moto and it was originally around £500, on offer for £411 then there was a voucher code SUMMER22 which is 15% so I ended up getting it for £350!!!! Which is a serious bargain considering you get a dark visor and a pinlock insert included in the price!!

I think XL moto are in Sweden but there are no extra customs charges at this end, what you see is what you pay basically. I've used them before and they're really good !!

Orderd on Friday 12th so its probably about right. I've ordered stuff from them before and it doesn't take long to receive stuff despite them stating later delivery dates.

I could be wrong though........snaffled myself a set of Clover RC100 race leathers that I spotted on ebay so it could be them........I had a set a few years ago in the black. These are the blue white black ones. Really rare these now and they're in mint condition, best leathers I've ever owned, just hoping they're as good as the pictures!! :)
