Hi All , first post but been around a while now. Looking for some advice regarding a knock in the front end. Almost at my wits end!
Bike is 17 reg 16 model 1000rr black edition , 6k km, showa forks
Issue , Knock from front when at slow speeds , drains, gully's, curbs, very distinctive knock.

I have removed the top yoke and found the top castle nut loose bottom was snug but i have re-torqued it.
refitting the top yoke it was apparent the clipons were to high not allowing the top yoke to fully seat this has be dropped now. top nut re-torqued.

No apparent play in fork tubes

    Front forks set to standard.

    Calipers removed cleaned and re-torqued.
Discs checked, buttons all free, no issues with braking.

When rocking the bike on front brake no replication of noise.

    All fairings checked nothing loose.

    Wheel bearings free no binding

    New tyres.

I am at the point when i will change the front wheel bearings and head stock bearings , i would do a fork rebuild with bushings but i feel that with the low milage it wouldn't be those?! also on a deadline as headed to the TT so time is in short supply now!

Any help, advice or tricks greatly welcomed

I’ve had 4 blades 08+ and they have all done it. Never found a cause but it’s exactly as you describe. Been to a dealer twice and always returned that no problem.

As above, this is common for the showa’s so if there is nothing else (as your checks suggest) I wouldn’t fret.

I've never heard a technical explanation of what it is but it's definitely common to the Showa BPF, mine has done it from day 1.

Thanks all for the reply's, I had heard about the showa issue but personally never experienced it myself. Nor do i know anyone who has. I don't see how any company can say its normal for forks to bang and knock from new, also when its not all of them , seems to be only some! Very unnerving noise to have from a bike at any speed personally!

Going to change the headstock bearings and see if there's any improvement, quick job to cross of the list , after that it'll be a fork rebuild.

Hi same has you I also had a new black edition fireblade, it’s the forks which makes the banging noise it did it from day one. I did take mine back but the fitters said they do it. Still does it now, After I ride a while it seems to go. I softened all adjusters off a bit on forks not too much and it was a lot better hope this helps.it’s nothing to worry about.

My 08 knocked when the head bearings needed adjustment, you seem to have checked the usual suspects, is this a noise you both hear and feel or simply hear, could it be possible it's just a cable slapping against bodywork?
