Hi Guys I am in a major dispute with Norton way Letchworth Honda. I took the bike to my bike mechanic who i trust 100% then i get the dreaded phone call. 'Do you know that the under tray is broken' I have been back and forth to the dealer but i am having no luck. I took the bike back to the dealer thinking i would get it repaired or get a refund. I have only had the bike for two weeks and hardly used it. I really don't know where i am going to go from here.
Problem with that is, you'd never have known it was broken without taking the top of the seat unit body work off. Which I'm presuming the dealer had no reason to do and its not something you look for when buying a bike. I would say the previous owner has traded it in, possibly knowing about the issue, possibly not knowing too! Cant see how you could break that unless someone has had a massive fatty on the pillion seat and their arse has slid backwards off the seat? Hard to tell. Another possibility is the bikes been on its side, hit a curb, fell against garage wall?? What is the dealer actually saying to you??
Is it an SP from around 2017 to 2020? I think that if it’s an SP from that period then they have a lightweight rear subframe and you’re not supposed carry more than about 2kg (or something like that - exact amount needs verification) on the rear, so it could have been broken by luggage?
My 2018 was an SP and they do still have the mounting points for pillion pegs. They're blanked off by plastic blanking plates when bought new but you can still fit pillion pegs to them so it could still be a possibility. I dont think luggage would cause this unless you had a grand piano strapped to the back end !!!
People do do it, not sure why you want to carry passengers on an SP but hey, people have funny ideas I'd check to see if the mounting holes have evidence of pegs being fitted and are the plastic blanking plates fitted or missing?
The dealer is refusing to help me out in every way he can. They say this is not covered by warranty and i have to pay for the repair to be carried out. They have tried to palm me off with every excuse in the book, i am getting no where fast. The bike has no pillion seat and does not look like it has had rear pegs ever fitted. I have sent the dealer emails which he has not replied to. The bike is a 2019 model with 4k on the clock. You are right in saying that when i looked at the bike there is no way i could of known the lower tray was broken.
Go to citizens advice and they will give you best options for a suitable outcome be that via trading standards or whatever. I’m guessing this is not a main dealer but an independent trader. Only other thing would be to take it to Honda UK and see what they say, but they are nowhere near as helpful as they used to be.
Did you pay anything over £100 as part of the purchase, or did you buy it on a credit plan? If so you have Section 75 protection for the entire purchase.
Also argue that its not fit for purpose? Might be easier and less stressful to source a new under tray and put it right yourself. Depends how far you're willing to take this.
Just to clarify, what @Barstewardsquad missed saying was credit card - as in, did you pay £100 in part (as deposit maybe) on a credit card? If you did then you can claim back under Section 75
Another option is to tell them you're going to ride over at the weekend, stand outside and tell everyone who walks in and out how shit they are. I had issues with an engine a dealer had done some work on, I said I was going to do this and suddenly they were quite open to the option of rectifying.
Or the I’m going to put this all over social media and the biking groups normally carries some weight as bad news travels very fast these days. Although it’s not something obvious on a however many point check? The attitude towards ownership of the problem it typical crap Honda customer service, and just for that I’d be inclined to repair it myself and go to town on them.

Is the broken part a plastic tray or part of the subframe? I would be surprised if the dealer did not check under the seat: service, battery charging or see if the toolkit is there ; so they must have known about the defect.
Looking at the photos and the Fowlers site I’d say it’s the subframe. What I don’t get is why as a main dealer (Norton Way Letchworth Honda) aren’t looking to plead the case with Honda UK to get it sorted under warranty/good will. If it’s down to excessive load then the plastics would have been destroyed surely? So, if they aren’t original either a previous owner has swapped them out to cover it up, or it’s been rear ended maybe, repaired under an insurance claim and the assessor missed the sub frame being weakend and it failed later? If not that then it would have had to have been a defective subframe out of the factory.
That is one assumption, but all the OP has said is "'Do you know that the under tray is broken'" Looking at their posts they were happy to get a bargain 4K 2020 bike, then it was a 2019. Not saying you are wrong, but if the OP is looking to claim something, they need to be more specific and detailed with their claims, not just wait arounds for weeks with little detail with what the issue actually is. If it were load related I would expect marks 90 degrees to those that are the possible problem. Lots of speculation, very little facts so far.
