Helmet's sports Vs touring ?

    Hi all.
    Currently have a shoei GT air 2, bought this when I had a ST4. Have been told a sports helmet has a higher visor aperture over a touring helmet.
    Can anyone tell me how much higher it is and will it make much of a difference on neck angle and visibility ?

    IMHO a lot will depend on your build (height wise), flexibility and riding style - if you’re tall, got a stiff neck and ride like MM the difference will possibly be noticeable, but otherwise I suspect the difference is negligible.

    Most important is the fit, go and try lots of different makes and styles - once your decided you can look for an online bargain

    I can tell you the GT air is not much use on trackdays. With your chin on the tank your eyes are looking upwards out of a corner and all you can see is helmet. It's like you've got the sun visor down in the car. It's particularly bad if there's any sort of gradient in the corner.

    Having said all that it's a great road/touring helmet and I've never had a problem with it. Love the built in sun visor.

    The answer for me was 2 helmets. Bought a racy Arai with a tinted visor for trackdays and sunny road rides.

    I don’t think the visors on the race lids are bigger but a different position due to how your positioned on the bike? Saying that my lid is purposely made for and tested for facing and had the largest aperture visor I’ve ever had and

    100% i needed a Arai lid and had to set aside the Shoei for the XR, i just couldn't get my head up comfy in the Shoei as i could feel it on across my shoulders, but the Arai had loads of clearance, i was able to look skyward almost for the chasing chopper !..:p

    I have a Shoei GT Air 2, and no issues on the Blade, on the road.

    I've been on the track.. I'm a novice really, and had no issues.

    I'm built like a t rex long back and short arms. If people think a helmet will help I'll try it. Otherwise it's a bar conversion or swap it out, bit gutted tbh as I do like the CBR.

    I've got a couple of X-Lite 903's with the ultra wide visor. Really nice lids on the road but I do find that when I'm tucked in and on it the chinbar and sides foul on the shoulder of my jacket. My AGV GP RR no probs, but AGV do need to sort out how dark their dark visors are, they are nothing like as dark as the X-Lites.
