Guys there's alot of scamming going on over in the ducati forum. Genuine people asking for parts and stuff in the wanted section are being targeted. Just be careful and look at people's profiles to see how long they been a member ect. Cookster
Had this PM at 1am from proguy8 who Registered just before sending. Contact the seller through [email protected], He has it for sale. Might be Genuine but I'm always suspicious online.
Most scammers on selling sites are just masquerading as a genuine seller and are after you sending money for goods that you will never see. They are preying on those not switched on enough to question BACS or Friends & Family PayPal payments which have no buyer protection. Not all are foreign though, many are just council estate scummy wankers who then go into hiding. The internet in general though is littered with various scams which can be hard to spot and harder to understand what they're after. My business Facebook page for example regularly receives messages claiming to be from Facebook telling me that my account is being closed unless I click a link to sign in, or that I need to authorise another business page to share access for advertising purposes. Both scams are simply to take control of my Facebook page so they can sell stuff that doesn't exist.
[Rant mode-on] As for the phone calls, they're just as bad. Telling me that I've been selected for a promotion, or that they're calling on behalf of my phone provider, want to improve my social media presence etc. The last one with an Asian accent claiming to be working directly for O2 caved when I pushed them for their address after I had already Googled the number during the call. I called their bluff and called them a liar when they said they were in Berkshire but the number was Manchester and that O2 don't have an office in Manchester. Obviously just after bank details, so don't tell them a damn thing! Basically my whole attitude to external comms is now, "Don't message me with what you're selling as I'll ignore it. Don't email me any offers as I'll just delete them as spam. Don't cold call me as I'll just hang up. Don't even come knocking at my door trying to sign me up to anything. If I want your service then I'll come to you".
