Hello all. I need some help with my 2007 cbr1000rr down here in Australia. Recently purchased the bike 3/4 assembled. Having owned a few cbrs beforehand finishing it up wasn’t hard. I was hoping the HISS wasn’t going to give me grief and thankfully it didn’t but welcome the new problem. Everything turns on as it should, correct light etc, hit the run switch and fuel pump starts to prime but won’t stop priming & actually starts filling the cylinders. I changed the regulator & serviced the fuel pump hoping it would help. Fuel pump just keeps going and starts filling cylinders. Anyone have any ideas or has come across this before? Local Honda dealer isn’t much help. Any help would be appreciated Regards Carl
My money is on the fuel pump as it has a built in regulator which should stop the fuel pressure from reaching the limit of what the injectors can hold back before they're supposed to fire. Checkout the "Fuel Tank" diagram at https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/honda/motorcycle/2006/cbr1000rr-a
Appreciate reply. I removed the fuel pump. Replaced orings, filter & regulator. Same result. Not sure what to do next. It actually fills the cylinder quite quick as engine won’t turn over. On one occasion I noticed a small amount of fuel combing from about halfway up an injector, but hasn’t done that again. Does the pump just stop when the regulator gets to pressure or does the ecu tell it to stop? If I’m not turning the engine over and just have run switch on,I’m assuming the injectors shouldn’t be firing which means it shouldn’t be filling the cylinders? Can the injectors let fuel past if they’ve reached there life span? I don’t really know a lot about them. I was in the carby generation lol. Once again, I appreciate your reply. regards Carl
It's a pressure switch in the regulator that turns the pump off, then it opens to let the pump continue when the pressure in the fuel rail drops. It could be the injectors leaking or being held open, although it shouldn't be the latter as it's the job of the ignition (via the ECU) to fire the injectors only when the engine is turning over. It sounds like your injectors are just pissing fuel straight through when they should be closed, allowing fuel pressure to build up until you actually go to start the bike. My next step would be to remove one (or all) of the injectors and send it/them away for bench testing, unless you can borrow a set.
If there is fuel in the cylinders (as liquid isn’t compressible) surely turning it over is going to be pushing fuel in to the sump as a minimum, if not damaging valves etc
@Boothman Agreed this issue needs to be sorted ,then the fuel removed from cylinders and probably an oil change. All before attempting to crank I hope !
Appreciate the help guys. I’ll give blocking the injector rail a go first. I’ll let you know how I go.
