Hi, looking at fitting a 2014 low mileage rear shock from a 14 blade to my 08 blade. I think its a straight swap - correct? The '14 rear shock comes from a 7500 mile bike. Mines a 30K rear shock so the difference just in terms of age/mileage should be beneficial - correct? Also the 14 shock should be the Honda badged Showa shock as well? This is quoted as being a better shock than the 08 one. Thoughts?
Worth servicing before fitting, maybe the right spring for you. I’d also pull the swing arm and linkage for a good grease up.
I have a 13 plate and the spring was far to strong if you are riding 1 up and less than 85kg kitted, I fitted a new 100n shock spring and 9n fork springs, It handles so much better on our crap roads, I wish I had done it years ago
Hi All, just an update on this. Finally got this done. Removing old shock was easy but bit of a faff getting the 2014 one in as its a bit taller and wider. As others have said original hugger doesn't fit - so you'll need a 2012+ on or an R&G one. Had the linkages regreased as well. Must admit it does feel much better handling. Not sure if that's coz of the later technology or just because its a newer shock compared to my old one. Next step will be to get it setup for my weight.
