    Morning All
So... I have a Fireblade that has been sitting for 18-mths overseas. But I had taken the recommendation from my dealer to empty the fuel tank and fill with diesel before I left.

I'm headed back and wondering if anyone has experience with this.
The tank and diesel were spotless when I did it, so I'm not concerned about anything in there but can I just siphon it out and replace it with petrol, give it a shake and 'go for it'?

Hi and welcome to the forum. Not heard of anyone doing this before, but I don’t see anything else you can do than empty it out and thoroughly rinse with petrol a few times before filling with good old E5 super unleaded. Make sure you don’t turn the ignition on beforehand as it’ll drag diesel in to the system as part of the fuel pump priming process and you certainly don’t want that.
Nice bike by the way :)

    Thanks Boothman!
Yeah… the tank is full to the brim with diesel recommended by the mechanic who rebuilt the fuel pump last time haha!

I was a bit worried about it slowly mixing through the rest of the system over time but yes. The pump priming process would maybe have kept it inside the tank.

The best bit about that bike… it parts traffic like the Red Sea when white lining (responsibly)

    Thanks again.
I’ll let you know how I get on

Yeah I leave my tank brimmed with e5 and stabiliser, but I do take it off and completely empty every 2 years.

very strange recommendation! never heard of this before.
I assume you did not turn the engine after the diesel fill up. If so empty all the diesel, fill with E10 or E5 then run it. If there is diesel in the mix, your engine will not initially run properly. I would just run it stationary until it runs as it should.
Next time, use petrol + stabiliser. This is waht I did when my bike was off the road for 18 months

    Alright folks…
I siphoned off the diesel, rinsed and siphoned off with 98 and refilled. Started first spin and immediately passed emissions testing.
I highly recommend it. Diesel to the brim will stop all chance of corrosion and is anhydrous(?) sucks up free water. Many thanks to the mechanic at West Coasr Motorcycles in Perth B170889C-C9F3-4786-B5B1-CF1F4B1C557C.jpeg

never heard of using diesel before!

I would recommend removing the fuel pump and replacing the tea bag filter, speaking from experience with a fuel pump that packed up, bike had been sat and when inspected the tea bag filter was full of crap and ultimately killed the pump.
