Gonna order mine up soon, but will have to be a massive 8x6. cos i'll also be getting a beowulf can with the baffles out, and the rozzers around north yorkshire enjoy plenty of revenue off bikers.

Perhaps tone the noise down a tad and enjoy a smaller plate (Best of both worlds)

Well I did have a 8x4 one line plate but got stopped at traffic lights by an off duty biker cop going to work.He said "when I'm on duty in the next 1/2 hr and see you with that plate on it it will cost you 3 points and a £60 fine".He said it does look better with only 5 digits but it's illegal. He was giving me the opportunity to put it right before another officer or him nabs me.Fair enough.
He did say that average speed cameras will soon be rear facing that will pick up bike registrations.Thats why they are getting hot on them.

I'll have to wait and see, dunno how loud the can is with/without baffles. If it sounds ok with baffles i'll use a smaller plate.

    Well I've just ordered a 7 x 5. Nowwwww :D

I can't remember the best way to drill the holes. I seem to remember an episode in the past when I drilled one and it damned messed up the backing. Any tips??

think benn suggested some kind of double sided tape(velcro) off ebay that he uses so no drilling!

Good choice, that's the size I'm going for. We got pulled by a bike officer coming through Maidstone a little to quick one night, most of the others I was with had this size and the officer didn't say a word. He was a nice bloke though and just asked us to slow down through the towns.

yep...your right about the rear reflector.

Apparently it is an MOT fail if missing and it has to be dead centre of the bike at the rear of course!!

Also the plate is supposed to have the postcode of where the plate was made along with the BS kitemark

7/8 x 5 should be OK...I think it would be really harsh if you get pulled and they start measuring the size of the letters

My last bike didn't have a reflector on it but I just bought a push bike one from Halfrauds and used to just tape it to the back of the numberplate come MOT time and then just rip it back off again when I got home with my ticket. To be honest I don't know why I bothered though because my local MOT place isn't exactly very stringent. I think you could drag it in there with only one wheel on and they'd still pass it.

What i've done in the past is have 2 plates. The original and a tiny letterbox one (years ago, more stringent now) both were fixed using a strip of velcro. Each time i got a rectification notice or come mot time, i simply stuck the industry standard anti flip / parachute size original back on. Simples

I was thinking to do the same, but the police is all over here since a couple of years. I remember the time when a lot of people got out of the pub into their car and no police was around. I don't like the big number plates and will see what happens when i change it to a small size again...

Its so easy to be legal...at the end of the day plod is just waiting to pull you for any reason and then go over the bike with a fine toothcomb depending on attitude. From experience it can start quite aggresively, but if you just nod and say ok it normally ends up in a half decent conversation about the latest round of BSB!
