hi everyone, i was talking with a friend today who has FMF exhaust on his blade and he was saying no S-bend midpipe ruins the fireblade's engine performance. i rode his bike and i cant really tell the difference. maybe cause mine is a lot louder i have an arrow GP-2. can anyone prove that the Exhausts without S Bend dont work and S bend do?
my exhaust doesnt have the s-bend and i cant notice any performance drop over the standard exhaust, most slip on systems from the big names use the s-bend link but for a full system they all use a straight midpipe so it all depends on what system you are using, for slip ons i would say the s-bend link is slightly better but a stright pipe certainly does not ruin the bikes performance
The full systems are designed for racing and give better top end power, slip ons are aimed at street riders and the longer pipe gives better midrange.
Hi mate i have a Leo Vince Gp Pro Evo II and that has a S-bend it is all to do with resistance, compression! Depending on how your system flows! Mine is basically a straight through Can that offers little in the way of resistance (back pressure) so needs the S-bend but a cigar shaped Can tends to recirculate exhaust gases offering more back pressure so they are able to run with a straight mid link pipe! Even taking out my insert which is about 7 inches long my bike runs lumpy and totally fcuks up the fueling as the engine managment system can't cope! It's all finely tuned hence the need for power commanders! In the old days getting your carbs balanced would do but today fuel injection is a lot more sensitve to change! All aftermarket exhausts are developed to offer performance gains with little adverse effect on fueling! Personaly it wouldn't mess with that! I know that manifacturers changed 4 into 1 exhaust configuration for a 4 into 2 into 1 configuration to enhance midrange and low end drive! Fez.57 has a twin end cans so that'll offer more back pressure than mine allowing him to run a straight mid pipe. I hope this'll shed some light on your question
so, even without S midpipe with Power commander's fueling correction it will work just fine? i got power commander just not yet tuned(zero map in).
Hi couldn't say for sure but you'll need the link pipe that suits your can probably the one it came with S or straight but if you just stick a straight pipe on regardless there is a good chance you'll sacrifice a few ponies and a dose of midrange even with a power commander! I went for the Leo Vince because of looks and sound! it's not best suited for the Blade it works better with Suzuki the best cans for the Blade is the one the pros use Arrows & Akrapovic for power gains
yeh my twin cans will offer higher back pressure and the baffles in them are clearly designed to aid this as they are basically a disc with a small whole that fits inside the cans to create even more, the bike does run crap below 4-5K with them out and then makes my ears bleed above 5K
Thanks for that Trev, you learn something new everyday, and today you are the teacher. I have a carbon Akro can with standard S pipe and other then sounding much better without the baffle I haven’t noticed any difference in performance other then I tend to drive slower and in a higher gear through the villages so not to scare the natives. Anyway load pipes save lives. Do they not.
Cheers mate I couldn't agree more about load pipes! I got 2 custom maps done on Wed full power with baffle out & economy with baffle in for motorway runs (less drone) what a difference! It's so responsive & much more grunt But Bob Scott BSB technician who dyno'd my bike said that the police in Scotland have really cracked down on loud bikes automatic ASBO on 1st offence if your pulled again they confiscate your bike Not sure how accurate he is but there only one way to find out! my bike sounds so good just now! Time will tell.
