I've just had some HRC air filters arrive for my 2005 blade today and I'm quite shocked as to how little or none of air filter material within the mesh housing there is!!!!!

It's worlds apart from the filters I took of with has the red lined air filter material within.

Am I being an idiot? Have I just bought the housings?

lol, no that's them mate, HRC like the engine to breath.....lol It may stop a pack of B&H from going in the engine but fag butts no....lol. I'd say for the road avoid ALL "race" filters as they don't filter much in the way of dust, fine if your backed by Repsol but not so good if you like your engine to last....lol. Tbh the gains are soooo small on the dyno unless your on the grid and need the edged I'd use stock, pipercross of even K&Ns.. :)

Excellent advice mate. Cheers. Looks like I'll have to sell them on.

To be more specific. Would you advise piper cross or k &n? I know they are pretty much the same

I assume its cos they allow the engine to breathe but still manage to stop animals and small children getting sucked into the motor.

Pipercross road are a nicely made filter, ally housed filter very well put together, but K&N are also OK and somewhere between road and race in filtration, people will tell you they loose power and the stock filters flow better....however I have never felt any losses....nor has my dyno charts, I had BMC race filters and changed to K&N would not know any difference other than as with all race filters they don't filter fine dust! Again you could just run stock filters and change them often, the problem we all have is am I loosening any power with OEM filters, in truth maybe a tiny bit but I'm happy with 155-170ish....lol
