Hi All. Just joined the forum. Was looking around for advice on rebuilding after a bit of an off at Donnington. Thought I'd better join the group so I can ask questions and get involved in the discussions. Looks like a great site and good to see a place where people with Blades can chat.

    Cheers.

Yep Blags can field strip a FireBlade with his eyes closed.

Of course, if he didn't ride with his eyes closed, he wouldn't need to...

    Welcome to the forum.

Hi and welcome. Fez is the man to ask for advice about wheel colours too, if ever you are thinking of changing.

Thanks for the welcome. Pics of bike.

Hi All, Thanks for all the welcomes.

Few pics of my bike below. CBR1000-rr with ABS. 2009 model. The 'before', the 'just after' and the 'rebuild begun'. Looking forward to having her back on the road and the track :) Image.jpg P5150234.jpg P7020232.jpg

Hi mate. Nice pics, and a very warm welcome to you.
I'm saying warm welcome, as it's the only warmth your gonna get living in the uk. Is it raining in Surrey? :D

It's (still) raining in Surrey. Think it's been raining since April. Pants.

Ouch - how did you fall off? Not ABS related I hope, seeing as I have the same model!

Here's the story of how I binned it.

Donnington track day. Honda CB1000rr with ABS, 2009 model, my everyday road bike. Mainly dry/damp track with rain/drizzle coming and going all day. Afternoon session. First few laps warming up, checking damp patches, etc. Next couple of laps going at reasonable pace. Going in towards Coppice, on my own on the track, usual entry speed, braking, crest the rise, tip in to the right..... wallop, slide along on your arse watching the bike spread bits of expensive Honda fairing all over the gravel. Bugger.

Having talked to many people about it, the general opinion seems to be slightly too fast in and up over the slight ridge, which unloaded the front, combined with a bit of damp exactly where I turned causing the front to let go and fold under. Classic low side stuff, nothing to do with the ABS or anything else to do with the bike. It was simply my lack of talent!

Good points: no injuries, repairable bike (well under way), much learning, nothing to ride for past 2 months (not that there's much riding to do with all this rain). Bad points: bike won't be the new shinny Honda dream machine ever again. My riding gear looks like it's been dragged along the road - which it now has! But worst luck of all, the batteries on the video camera I had on board ran out half a lap before the crash! Double bugger! Would have be great to have that on video!

The rebuild is now almost complete. I got a fairing from CHina. Not as good as an OME one from Honda, but about 6 times cheaper. Looks great, had to tweak it a bit to fi. A but more brittle than the Honda ones but finish it great.

I have a question about the rebuild which I will post on another forum thread.
